w221 window goes down only few inches at time

hi

I have a w221 s_class 600 2008 they only go up and down in stages, i.e. I press the switch and they'll go up an inch, so I press again and up another inch -- so it takes me over 10 presses to shut each window is the same problem with all the 4 windows

any ideas please?

Jocke

Delete the window-related errors with diagnostics tool
Manually close the window as far as it will go and hold the window button in the closed position for 10 - 15 seconds.
Repeat the same in the direction of opening the window.

It could simply be that the windows are sticking everything so slightly in the channels and it's triggering the anti trap. The following is an effective remedy on most vehicles and holding the switch at the end of travel resets the one touch, (whilst this step may not be entirely necessary, it's a free reset and as you have to operate the switch anyways, you've nothing lost from doing it).

Open the windows fully and carefully spray silicone lubricant into the felt window channels. Then operate the windows fully a couple of times. Hold the window switch for ten seconds at each end of the travel... You may hear a faint click after ~10 seconds.

The windows should then freely operate with a single press.

Sounds like the window regulators need resetting or the motors are failing. Try the reset procedure: hold the switch up until window closes, keep holding for 5 seconds, then release. Common issue on the W221.
