We are looking to replace our '07 S550 4Matic with a loaded New Model. We had considered doing Euro Delivery, but think that maybe taking 2 weeks off and driving here in the US would be a blast without the additional travel and the wait for the cars sea journey to us after leaving our new ride at the "dock".
Our local dealer gave us the "discount" structure for the Euro Ordering. Realizing this is a new vehicle launch still (We are looking for an April delivery), what pricing can be realized stateside for comparison?
Thanks in advance,
and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

If we assume you go conservatively and price the S550 at 100K, the discount for EDP would be from $7925 to $9925 based on how different dealers kick a bit more into the EDP discount (7 - 9 % + destination charge waiver of $925).
If you spend $7500 for a nice vacation in Europe including flights (or more if you upgrade to business class), you get the vacation for free considering I have not seen people getting any discount unless they have a very long standing relationship with the dealer. So, yes, the downside (and I am dreading this) is having to say goodbye to the car (in Nice in my case) for 8 weeks. If you want to drive around the US for two weeks, that sounds great too but you are going to pay sticker and the cost of your travels. Depending upon the length of your stay, $7500 buys a very nice vacation in Europe but you may get more or less (A week at Villa D'Este on Lake Como costs $1000 a night but oh so worth it). If you can stand parting with the car, EDP seems a nicer experience at least once in one's life.
Good luck.
110 days to pickup in Stuttgart.

^ As TomS states, if you enjoy travel, EDP is totally worth it. $7500 will easily cover flights and some nice hotels in Europe. Plus 7% off on a very desirable model is a nice bonus.
If you are looking at it from a pure money savings point it is not worth it. You may easily spend over 10K on a two week trip to Europe to save 7% on the car.
EDP is an excellent opportunity. But you have to enjoy travel to truly benefit from it.
European hotels charge around $600-800 a day to loan you a S class with a driver (FS, MO etc) To have your own to drive around Europe in my book is neat.

My car is optioned to just over $119k. My total ED discount was 10% (7% program, 3% dealer), plus also saving the $925 destination charge. So, my total savings is just under $13k. This is quick profit for any dealership, albeit not as much as selling a car off the lot. I think you could be able to negotiate to that that extra 3% off.
My trip will only be 5 days--I will be arriving in Sindelfingen on 12/18, and I have plenty of flyer miles to use so for me its a no-brainer, despite having to wait the time it takes for the vehicle to arrive stateside. I'm also dropping car off in Bremerhaven, which I hope will shorten the time it takes to get to the US since its the main port where Mercedes ships over it's vehicles. Hope this helps.
