How to: Squirting the front grill IR sensor
For those who have the Night Vision system, there is an IR sensor mounted in the front grill on the passenger side; it is black and round and just off vehicle centerline, and about one-third down from the top of the hood. This area gets very dirty from road grime. There is a squirter built-in to the unit for cleaning, but the Owner's Manual does not accurately tell you how to use it. With the windshield wipers on, fully depress (to its stop) the fluid dispense button (at the end of the blinker stalk) twice in rapid succession and hold. It is a powerful spray so holding it in only a second or two does the trick.

Interesting if that was not explained in the user manual.
I wonder why did they move the Night View camera to the grill, is the top of the windscreen occupied by the stereo camera and other sensors.

The Night Vision system is made up of three parts: The IR transmitters in the headlight assembly, which sends IR forward and is seen by the IR camera located high on the windshield behind the rear-view mirror. This is the reflective IR part of the system; it does not see heat generating sources. The IR sensor in the grill sees heat generating sources, such as people along the side of the road and larger animals. The two systems complement each other.

CORRECTION: The number of button pushes to clean the IR sensor in the grill is FIVE, not two. This is from MB-USA. I must have made three other pushes earlier within the prescribed time period.
