One annoyance with the new 2014 S550

I finally found something that's annoying with the new S550. It has to do with the Media Register. On my 2008 LS I could start to record a CD, turn off the engine and walk away. When I would start the engine again, the recording would continue where it left off. But apparently, that is not the case on the new S. The recording needs to start up from the beginning. That's annoying in that it takes forever to record several CD's on the register unless you are driving for a long time. I guess I will live with this annoyance since everything else about this car is heavenly.

Interesting, can see where that would be annoying. I haven't tried using this feature, we keep all our music on iPhones and just integrate those devices into each vehicle.

Good to know for future reference.

I haven't tried to burn any on the HD yet, but if it's like my CLS, it as you mention.....
doesn't bug me since I usually do it while in transit
I'm slowly learning all the short cuts

Guys, I'm now not certain that it does it as I explained above. I checked the Music Register and there was one folder that only had the first track recorded. I also noticed that I had a couple duplicates. So MAYBE, it does stop recording when you turn off the engine and then resume when you start it as long as you have it on Media Player. Just not certain what is going on yet. You guys can let me know what you find out as well as you try to record CD's. Thanks.

Back to square one. I now know for certain that what I posted originally about the way the Register records cd's holds true. I specifically started recording an album for a few minutes, and turned the engine off and went in the house. This morning, there was zero evidence that anything from that album was recorded.

Let's see what you guys can figure out.

Forgive me for asking, but why are still fumbling with CDs?

Merc, I'm fumbling with CDs because I love music from the 60's and I had hundreds of songs in my LS hard drive. I had purchased these CDs several years ago. I want to recreate what I had on the LS. I also had some great Greek music (including "Yanni at the Acropolis" CD which is awesome in my opinion).

I'm not familiar with the more modern ways to download this music into the hard drive. I'm probably missing something but perhaps you can educate me on this topic. Thanks.

I should also add that I had recorded some music from much later than the '60s. For example, I like the music that Bryan Adams produced in the '80s. Additionally, I love music from "The Boss", Dan Fogelberg, etc.

Hyperion, thanks for the Yanni photo. Does that mean you also like this album or are you trying to tell me something else?

Have you found any way to partially record without starting over again?

Btw, I really miss my car. My wife and I are in Seattle this week visiting our son and family. It will be like the first day I got to drive the car home from KC when we get back home early next week.

If I recall, you can also put your music onto an SD card on your computer and them just copy them from the SD card to the hard drive in the car. I think I remember reading that.

A bit off-topic but I love the fact that the car has an SD slot. I do hope someone in the Silicon Valley tech center thinks to have the HD record a rolling 60 seconds of video from the front camera and give you the option to save it to an SD card. Instant Dash Cam...

Just rip them and put onto usb thumbdrive or SD card. Even that takes forever though but not as long as it does on the w221. It transfers at like USB 0.1beta speeds.

Does the built in media register store music in a lossless format? Otherwise you are loosing quality. You might be better off ripping the CDs into a lossless format and having access to your music via an iPod. This way you also have a backup of your music. What happens if your car's media register crashes? Ripping CDs takes forever.

My advise is just do it on a computer once into a lossless format, keep a backup, and you'll never have to deal with it again.
