Downshifting while braking

I wonder if anyone else notices this. When I brake from a higher speed, I notice the transmission downshifting along the way. I can correlate the gear display go from D6 through D2 to a significant sensation of movement. It actually reminds me of when I downshift in a manual transmission and I change to a lower gear at too high an RPM.

I have never notched this in another car (including the other Mercedes—different tranny though).

So, I ask only the folks that actually drive the S550, do you notice anything like this?

I should also mention that I did not notice this in Europe at all when I was driving the car.

I thought about that Sorry. That's like you never notice the arrow between the arrow between the E and the X in the FedEx logo until someone tells you and then you will always see it.

My 2006 E55 does this... And my wife's 09 C300 did this as well when she owned it...

Ran into the same "issue" on my ML63. Decided to write off to my excessively gentle driving. Unless it continues occurring on regular basis, it does not bother me, although not something that one would expect from a modern 7-G tranny.

I had this issue on my 2011 S class and complained. They said it was normal as the car was learning my driving habits. I didn't like that answer but gave it the three to four months they said it would take to normalize. I then complained again at 6 months in a little different way and they did a software update on my car and it went away.

Do not have the problem on my 2012.

Don't know if this is applicable but thought I would mention it.
