Quote: I really dislike the look of the Panamera, but calling it the German Aztek is over the top.
After all, the Panamera outsells all 911 variants combined and is only second to the Cayenne, so there must be people out there liking the looks.
Or they are stupid. The Cayenne and Panamera are HIDEOUS looking. The 911 is classic and amazing. The reason they out sell the 911 is because soccer moms drive them, and they are more popular for that reason. Other than that, if you really think either of those are better than a C63 inside and out, you need your head examined. Call them like I see them...

Did you just compare a Cayenne, Panamera or a 911 to a C63? I doubt few if any shopping for either of those 3 will look at a C63. Just the interior of the C63 will turn me off. Now if you are talking about an S63 then I agree that the S class is a more viable alternative with a great interior.

Quote: I have not driven either of your choices so I can not address the attributes of these cars from personal experience. I have always been a truck/suv kind of person although I am now at the point in life where a nice sedan makes more sense and I am considering the S or E class. But let us analyze your concerns. You said, "....I'm concerned it (S63) won't be as much fun to drive...." Of course it won't, at least from everything I've read about these two cars. If the "fun" driving experience is your main criteria you have your answer.

You also said, ..."it's more mature and not as sporty not sure if that's good for me as a 30 year old." Well, there you go. A 30 year old in S class? Sacrilege! You have not lived long enough for that and from your comment it is clear that you know it. You will look funny in it just like I would look funny in the McLaren P1. Get the Porsche (any Porsche) drive the hell out of it, get it out of your system then come back here in about 10 years.
I agree with this post wholeheartedly and believe it really applies to me. I will revisit the S-class in the future, that is for sure. It's a wonderful vehicle.

What? I could not disagree more. The C63 has nowhere near the customization, amenities, and build quality that a loaded Panamera does. And it shouldn't, given how much cheaper the C63 is.

Typing too fast...of course I meant S63

Funny
I think you must be confusing me with another poster; I made no comments about the C63 or or the Panamera interior.
I agree about the Panamera interior being crap, but so is the 911 interior including their nav, etc.
To me, the current 911 turbo s is as great as a sports car as one can buy but it's not a car for me, maybe I am too tall but is's just not comfortable to sit in.

To my earlier point, it is interesting though that even Porsche, a company synonymous with the 911 only produces some sports cars and primarily family movers.

You're 30? You have a long life ahead to drive old man cars. Hire a car service for the 30% of the time "you're driven" and get a driver's car for when you drive. A comment from a 57 year old that's not ready for either of those cars at almost twice your age.

????
How tall are you?
I'm 6'5", 230 lbs and the 991 is the most roomy and comfortable sports car in the market for me at the moment.
Nothing out there has as much headroom and legroom at the same time as the Porsche.

Despite how the Panamera Turbo drives why would you purchase a car you don’t find attractive? It likes waking up to women with a great body with an unattractive face. Despite how much attention the Panamera gets I find the car hideous. Sorry just my opinion.

Age shouldn’t stop you from purchasing any car. I purchase my first CL500 when I was 28. A beautiful car but it was a nightmare to own.

If I was you I would take a look at some more cars.

I must say i dont agree with half the comments on this post. I used to own an S550 which was a beautiful car and now own a Panamera S and let me tell you, that car drives like a dream and its a looker too. Its by no means ugly, not even close. It turns more heads than the new S Class and that's the truth.

I have driven the new S Class, Pana Turbo and an the current generation CL 63 and i will advise you to get the Panamera Turbo. That vehicle is unreal and it keeps pushing you for more. I'm about the same age as you and 6'3" and the Panamera fits me comfortably along with my brothers in the back who by the way are 6'4" and 6'5".

You are young, have some fun and if you have the finances, get a Panamera Turbo you will love it. An AMG is sporty but comfort is prime for mercedes, now with a porsche, thats sport all the way and I drive mine everyday and this is coming from a benz fanatic. I cant wait to drive the new S coupe but if it dissapoints, i'm going the Pana Turbo route.

How do you know it turns more heads? Looks like the last S class you owned was a 2008, which is very different than a 2015. I've owned 3 911's and the Pana is hideous (and almost everyone agrees). HOWEVER, it has more of a sports car feel of course. But for me the S550 (2015) is just a stunner inside and out--something Pana is missing IMHO.

You are not going to get any arguments from when it comes to Mercedes because I believe those are the best cars in the world. Yes I did have an 08 S550 and got rid of it after a few years because it is everywhere and I mean everywhere which takes the exclusivity out of it. I wont agree with you on the Panamera being hideous and its look and feel was built of the 911. I get compliments all the time and from current benz owners too.

This question seemed to be based on buying a sporty ride hence Turbo vs S63 and my opinion based on having driven both (2015 S class and Pana Turbo), my choice would be the Turbo. In the S Class you wouldn't feel the power like you would in a Panamera but hey if thats not what you want, then the S class will give provide you the perfect balance of both worlds.

Also with the 2015 S63, you cant really tell the difference from someone who has a 2015 4matic with sports package. its basically the same exact car on the outside. If you must have an AMG wait on the new S coupe.

Fair enough. I'm looking forward to new S Coupe. The lines are just drop dead gorgeous on that car. Is it really meant to compete with a 911--not in my book. I call it a refined luxury sports car, where I would call Porsche a pure sports car. I like both brands.

Maybe the Pana is a head turner because it is hideous?!

You guys are funny. If everyone's tastes were the same, they would be one car in one color and options would be an odd concept.
That's why I find these threads so inane. They ought to be titled: "Tell me what I should like," and they exist on the car, watch, gun and stereo/AV equipment boards I regularly follow.

But I do owe an apology to the OP for telling him to get a "driver's car." Either of these are fine cars for anyone at any age...if they like it enough to part with the requisite pile of $$$$ to procure one.

I think someone should start talking about the Tesla, like in the other post. NOT. You can't go wrong with either car, the luxury side of the Merc trumps the Pano, and the sport side of the P-car trumps the Merc. Two very nice cars, I just like the S a lot better.

The S-Class coupe is not meant to compete with the 911; that would be the upcoming AMG GT, the successor of the SLS.

That car will be over 1000 lbs lighter than the S-Class coupe. Should be fun

Had the same dilemma until recently, considering a Pana Turbo S vs new S63 Coupe.
Then became unexpectedly one of the 29 owners of upcoming M5 30 Jahre.
Everyone tells me to take it so I will , if I don't like it I can probably still trade it for MB without losing too much anyway.

I totally agree with you. The way I'm looking at it (still leaning towards S63), is that I would lose a bit of handling/driving going with S63, but gain mostly everything else. Beautiful car, new model, awesome technology, driver assistance, the ability to be driven in it, etc.
