Hyperion,

Nice loaner! How the heck do you pull off a S Class as a loaner? I get a C class or a GLK as a loaner. Tell me your secret!

hyperion667 06-23-2014 02:45 PM

I have no idea; but I was glad to hear it too: no 4matic, no sport body, not the nice seats...has 20's also: glad I didn't order those :)
but still a nice ride I guess......I really don't like lane assist and the adaptive CC either.....
and my daughter cracked me up when she said her seat didn't have the heating and cooling buttons :)

Or is it that nice car?? HAHA!

Looking Good! Oh--the car that is. I don't picture you that old to have a graying mustache.

I use both touch pad and jog dial. I use touch for flipping through presets, and jog for going between sub menu's.

Would you have problems with warranty repairs if you lower the car?

Hi,

Do any of you know what type of wheels these are, and an approximate price on these ?

BKWard 03-03-2015 12:06 PM

Finally got my car, pics to follow when weather cooperates.

I waited 101 days from the time I put my special order in for S550 until I drove it off the lot...just know if your expecting to order a car built to your specs this is the kind of wait you can expect. Took 4.5 weeks to enter production. When it went in production that process took less than a week.....the actual construction of the car. Then, it sat in port waiting for a ship for over two weeks. Then....two stops in Europe, one in UK (Southhampton) and one in Spain. Basically it took 15 days from time it left Bremerhaven, did the two Euro stops and then along to Baltimore.

As far as the 5 weeks it took to get into production, I was told that dealers have an allocation, so if they get a special order, they choose a car marked for them as part of their allocation, then they simply put in the changes to make it exactly like the car I want.

Why did I have to special order, one is the Bremester 3D system, they don;t sell many of those so finding one at a dealer that has everthing else you want is hard, Secondly, I went with the Porcelain/Black Designo interior.....another option dealers don't order unless a customer orders it.

My favorite interior is the Silk Beige/Satin Red Pearl.....only available on AMG cars but it is beautiful. The red is really a brown with a hefty hint of red undertones. It's beautiful.

Anyway.....I'll post pics soon when the background is not full of snow piles, and I'll wait for a sunny day. I want to get a coat of conditioner on the paint and a god coat of wax buffed in. Any advice on first time application of conditioner/wax/or buffing a new car with less than 60 miles on it?

Thanks in advance.

Enjoy the board and all the information, especially you "old timers" or if you prefer "frequent posters."

Only recent thread where I don't follow the crowd is on the 14 MY S550 being in the top 10 unreliable cars, I don't know, seems to me there is no way to spin that as anything other than BAD. Survey was polling owners of that car, thats what they said. IN other words.....ITS NOT A GOOD THING AND NO AMOUNT OF RATIONALIZATION (sample was based on one model year, or the others I've heard put forth) WILL CHANGE THAT FACT THAT OUR 140K CAR IS IN THE TOP 10 OF UNRELIABLE VEHICLES. NOT GOOD, NO WAY NO HOW.

Having said that.....I put 50 miles on it yesterday as I picked it up late.....it drives like a dream. I'm very happy with the initial drive. From what I understand break in is first 100K miles. Try not to exceed 4000 RPM's during that time and vary speeds in all gears. Most important no long interstate trips in first 1000 miles. I usually pay no attention to break in period, just drive the way I normally do, but this is the most I have ever spent on a car so I'm going to follow the recommendations. Thoughts on break in?

[QUOTE=Kleffen;6348343]Hi,

Do any of you know what type of wheels these are, and an approximate price on these ?

Looks like those wheels are a option on AMG cars, no cost option for 20" wheels.

I see that now, yes, this color combo available on all S class models. Wish I would have realized that. I ordered the porcelain/black without seeing it in person because there were none in my area to see. I suppose it was same with the Silk Beige/Satin Red. If I could do it over I would have gone with that. Anyway, pictures coming soon.

yipes, didn't know there was a color combo like that......sounds nice,

congrats on the car BK

punjabi22 03-04-2015 05:26 PM

The designo Silk Beige/Satin Red Pearl is my interior choice. There was one at a dealer about 200 miles from me and I drove down there just to check it out. I wanted to physically see it before ordering. After looking at it, there is no way for me to order another interior color on this car. The dealer did hv the exterior color black and I want diamond whitel and also want to see what the 2016 has to offer before I committ to it. The interior color is for sure. I'm glad I drove the "extra miles".

do you have a link to this car with that color? would love to see it......is it designo color?

BKWard 03-05-2015 07:38 AM

The dealer where I bought my car has a S63 AMG....I think thats the model. It's over 173K so I"m thinking it will be there for a while. It has the interior Silk Beige/Satin Red Pearl. I got to go down and pick up some parts that I ordered and were not in when I picked up my S550 Monday. So, I'll take a bunch of pictures of this interior so everyone can see it. The rendering on the Mercedes web site does not do it justice.....speaking of the Mercedes web-site rendering of different interior options...its all the same....very far of from an actual photo.

The car has every back seat luxury option you can get, including rear seat entertainment I think.....to me that really narrows the universe of potential buyers. Unless your driving it for someone to chauffeur you around.....why bother with all that. I don't get it but whatever floats your boat.

In regards to my S550 (pics coming soon) this is the quietest car I have ever driven. So well insulated from outside noise, yet strikes the right balance on engine noise....I want some of that. When I post picks I'll share my thoughts especially since I'm coming off of 4 different BMW's over the last 10 years.

One ***** already..... when spoken navigation instructions come on it does not lower the volume of music enough. I can adjust the volume of the spoken nav instructions, I know how to do that. Thats not the problem, problem is it does not turn the music down enough so you can hear instruction clearly.

OK, I;m done. won't post till I have pics to share. Drove my car off lot with 10 miles and now have 140.....so 130 miles in 3 days. I want to get it broken in ASAP. We're getting snow here and thats going to keep me out of car for next couple of days.

Brian

BKWard 04-01-2015 04:36 AM

Thanks for the kind words on my car, I would have done the "Silk Beige/Satin Red" interior if I could have, but has been pointed out in another thread they make that selection very expensive. Easy to get if you by a S63 or S65 or AMG, if you buy a S500 and want that interior you have to get almost every rear seat option for some reason. Plus, it adds $8,600.00 for Silk Beige/Satin Red....and the red is really a brown with a hint of red....very misleading name.

Anyway.....I ended up ordering the car and waiting over 100 days to get it. Mainly because I wanted the Bermester High End 3D sound system. So I could not find it in any cars in stock in my Metro area that had everything else I wanted. About he Bernester...I am mainly happy with it. Not as blown away as I thought I would be, don't get me wrong it is great. But, I got a custom system in my Ford F250 pickup and it sounds almost as nice as the Bermester....seriously. One thing about the Bermester that is cool, you can set the sound to be specially tuned for a particular seat....so I keep it tuned for the drivers seat naturally. The drawback to that is if I have a car full of people I turn it off or focus it on another seat and it does not sound near as good as when it's focused on your seating position.

Went over something big, the front went up and the rear went down. It's fixed now but I might as well share it.

Yeah, was about to get a S Class with the 20" from the factory, then this car became available and I couldn't wait no longer. My son persuaded me into the Vossens, thanks to Mikes pictures of 22" on the S Class. Would have got 22" if there wasn't any insurance problems.

Added a chip. The place I took my car to installed it and hooked it up to a computer. I lowered it around an inch all the way around.

A chip? What chip is it? I'd like to lower my car and thought I could do it through star, but people are saying otherwise.

Wolfman 06-12-2015 02:17 PM

Sounds like a electronic lowering module. Lots of choices available.

hyperion667 06-14-2015 12:35 PM

what is the typical cost of an ELM?

There are some cheap ones under $1k but Nice ones are $1500-$1800. What's nice you can lower the car to your liking (1mm increments for each wheel and save different settings) and the car will raise itself above 30mph to stock setup so that no alignment is required.

More expensive than links but cheaper than premature tire wear...

You got great taste :) The car is Magnetite black. I think the S-class looks best in a dark color no matter how impossible it is to keep clean. Love the light interior and the exclusive nappa IMO makes all the difference.

Absolutely right. A friend offered me to buy his brand new 22"s (he traded in his S550 for M5 before he could mount them) but I'm not too particular about wheels now. Honestly I would have taken the stock 18"s but the 19"s just came with the car. The funny thing is I swear I think somehow my dads '14 E class had the same wheels...when I see him next weekend I'll take a photo and compare them.

No actually the g class costed 30k when I purchased the car and the upgrades with the wheels interior and exterior costed a little over 20k. The S class I purchased it brand new and the upgrades on that are costing under 20k for everything. The body shop is someone I've been dealing with for years so they've been really taking good care of me with everything.

It's not really a problem. The above quote is pretty much an excuse. The insurance charges an absurd premium, but that may have something to do with having other modifications. Tyres also cost a fair amount and I wasn't prepared to spend that money during my home renovations.

Right now I have $16k off MSRP including fleet. My car is a June build so won't be here until July. Hoping I get a lot more off by then. How about you?

Thanks. It will be protected as a member of the fam would be. :)

Yes. I'm going with a 21" wheel, my opinion is 22" wheels are just too big.... Esthetically and usability speaking.

Going to paint the trim on the car to match the wheel. Just the chrome parts of the front grill. Decided to go with gloss black trunk emblems. I know this part is not popular on this forum but, painting the calipers burnt copper (will NOT put the "ceramic brakes" which is on the MBZ cars equipped with ceramic brakes).

Any particular reason why you're going with TSW? Traditionally for the legendary S-Class customers go a little bit more upscale like HRE so that it matches the status of the car.

Never really been one for tradition. Your comment kinda typifies one of the reasons why. I'm not about spending $8-$10k for wheels and tires just so I can "fit in". Don't get me wrong, have in the past, in fact, I bought a 22" set of Techart wheels from you guys a bunch of years ago for a Cayenne GTS and have had several sets of HRE wheels for an Aston Martin. The new flow form forged technology has brought some reasonably priced wheel options to the market. Even HRE offers this type of wheel. It's a different day than it was....

I think the image part plays a role but the main point was quality. HRE is the best in the business when it comes to that (along with BBS). The S-Class has been the best in the luxury sedan market for decades so they go hand in hand. To your point - that's not to say the TSW's aren't a solid choice because they are. But being in the wheel industry it's my honest opinion that the TSW's aren't truly meant for big body Benz's.

I appreciate your opinion. Quality of HRE is great I know; until the wheel meets it's first curb. I doubt there will be any issues putting a TSW wheel on a W222 S class, they're used on SUVs. You guys sell TSW but, the page on your site gives a 404 error.

True enough! I curbed one of mine a little (HRE M303, 20 inch) and was pissed.....however, I was having a concern about the weight of the car being too much for something besides forged. They do need a fresh coat of love, but they still look killer after 30K miles....but yes, that is the price range for a nice set from HRE with rubber......
good luck!! And ENJOY

1bad540 02-23-2018 09:13 AM

Lots of wheels choices out there i agree, totally different than it was years ago. Chuck let us know when you get those wheels up and mounted should look great!

You can buy black emblems in either a matte or gloss finish on eBay. I had all badges remove for the paint correction. The star I ordered didn't fit so I painted the original star with 040 black spray paint and then clear coat with a 2k high gloss clear (with hardener). Looks perfect.

Same general multi-spoke directional styling but two different wheels. The above ones appear to be 10 spoke Monoblocks. The ones on the S-Class look to be 15 spoke 3-piece wheels.

MY S550 on Ferrada F8-FR6 Conti Tires Front 255/35/ZR20 Rear 285/30/ZR20

Recently installed new wheels after bending the 19 inch AMG wheels for the last time on a NY state pothole. I debated between Vossen x Works VWS3 but selected the Ferrada F8-FR6 split bar 7, the choice was risky imo, but I like the results.
Other work done included Avery gloss black vinyl on the grill and the roof, satin silver side skirts, that matched up perfectly with the Ferrada wheels.
Future plans: paint correction and ppf, front bumper has been pelted by stones and needs some work. May go with full satin dark grey vinyl wrap in summer 2019.

New wheels, wrapped roof, grill in gloss black, side skirts in satin silver, final revisions will be completed in spring/summer 2019. Planned changes are full vinyl wrap satin dark grey and chrome delete

Original AMG wheels, unfortunately the right front was demolished in a NY state pothole.

I think the stock 19's go w the car better. Y not oem style 20's?

I agree to that. 5 stars just never go out of style. They always bring them back too in a few years if they stop.

Got me down some ugly back roads in Vermont, traveling home for the holidays to see my wifes family. Shes a little dirty but tackled the drive like a champion!

Hi,

I am writing to you from Cyprus - here is my S500 LWB.

I replaced the carpets to black as I hated the stains on the beige one.

Beautiful! Can I ask what level tint you have on your windows? I just took delivery of my 2019 S560 and have an appointment next week to get windows done, but haven't landed on tint level yet. Thanks!

alexdou111 02-11-2019 10:53 PM

thanks man, the rear windows came with tint already when I bought the car, I would assume from the factory, the front I just took to a shop asked them to match it up, although I was not 100% happy with the result, I think the fronts are a little lighter tinted. Congrats on your 2019 model!

Nothing special here, and no "beast" involved. Just out at the park and took a shot of my 2018 in the parking area after being freshly washed. For context, I include a local onlooker:

My S550 was nicknamed beast by my friends because this was my previous vehicle....

obviously this was “beauty” :slap:
even had a matching glk for my wife.

when you go from a clk 350 to an S550 your friend would say “now this is the beast” too.

Anyone have pictures of a white S that they have added the "night package" that some of the other models have available? This would involve making the side mirrors and lower rockers black, and the rear and front lower valence? Probly most would wrap ?

tkelley.EClass 09-08-2019 10:12 AM

I did roof, wheels (Nissan K11 dark graphite), rockers, door handles, mirrors, S63 diffuser, rear trunk trim, spoiler, roof spoiler. I had black tint on the tails but it was too dark so I removed it. There is a before and after tail light tint pic below. I also ended up removing the rood spoiler.

Personally I love the way it looks with spacers. I’m more of an OEM+ type of guy so I love the OEM look but much beefier. Although I would love to get some 21s on it, I live in Michigan so bigger wheels mean more risk of pothole damage and discomfort. Although at 21 years old I can bear with the discomfort a bit more lol :rolf:

Lol no problem! I run spacers on all my vehicles and do the alignments on them accordingly after installation of the spacers and adjustable camber links. Although camber affects tire wear very little compared to toe (unless there is a crazy amount of camber), there is a bit of extra wear compared to stock, but nothing that would cause me to eat through tires abnormally. And I have driven over 68,000 miles in the past year!

The S-Class above uses 21's. Those HRE's are also available in 20". Either way, they wheels are manufactured from 6061 aerospace-grade aluminum - the strongest you can make a wheel out of. I have hundreds of customers driving in Michigan with no problems.

I'll say it again for everyone, thank you for taking the time to test this system out and confirm it works. You appear to be driving an almost 200k car for a fraction of the cost. It looks FANTASTIC! With that, would love to hear feedback on the headlights. Also, would your buddy be willing to share any feedback on his experience with the install? A couple sentences maybe? Or even a "the kit is straightforward, no comment"?

trustz 02-03-2020 01:31 PM

I forgot the tail lights: https://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-FACELIF...72.m2749.l2649

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...e49fa2c13c.jpg1. I like the headlights and no modification for installation. But I don't remember how the stock lights work at night. Maybe I don't even have a chance to turn on the headlights before I sent the car to my friend's shop. I don't have the night vision option so if you have the night vision on your headlights, you will need to get another headlight has the night vision.

2. The front and rear bumper's fitment are ok, and modification is minimum. But the sensors on both sides of the rear bumper are going to be a problem. Because my lane change assist is not working. But I don't care since I don't need it when I am driving. Try to get a body kit made in Taiwan, not made in China. I have a very bad experience with a body kit made in China for my W221.

Took advantage of our current crisis and did a full recon :)

I've owned this vehicle since 10/2018...it's not my first MB, however it has been the most satisfying. Starting with how dependable this vehicle has been for me since I purchased it with 42Kmi. It now has 63K and I daily drive it. This is my favorite Mercedes, however my first love was my 1999 CL600 C140. Although timeless and classic, it always needed something. Knock on wood, this W222 has been playing nice. I do service it to a T however.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out and comment! Good bad or ugly!
Stay safe during this mess out there!

PS: Does anyone have a front plate bracket they do not need or haven't installed? I wish I didn't have a front plate but the previous owner butchered the bracket on the car now, and I'd like to correct it!
Thanks,
Petehttps://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...43dee781e.jpeg

Congrats. Also good to help a dealer during these tough times, I imagine his sales might be down 90% or so this month.

I'm curious how the CLS 53 drives, in terms of performance, compared to the 560.

MagnoWhitew222 06-11-2020 12:05 PM

Cls is quicker but doesn’t have the power I would have expected. I had a 2014 cls550, I think the 550 was faster. Overall great car, but I would have preferred a v8.

If you're considering a switch to Jet Black, Try a vinyl wrap instead of repainting.

I saw that Phaeton immediately as I had a 2004 W12. I , along with about 20 other VW forum members, went to Dresden to see the transparent factory where we got to see Bentley Flying Spurs being built alongside the Phaetons. We eventually ended up in Sindelfingen and toured the MB factory. Drove the autobahn and had a great time. A memory I'll never forget.

How do you find the S8 compared to the S63? I haven't driven a prefl S63. I liked the S8 but felt it was trying to be everything without 'being the best' at anything. Here's a birds eye from a few years ago of my old S8 next to the S Class.

Could be right. I recently was learning about leasing a GT car and I'd probably still get some wheels that suited me, but who knows! I had a white S as well back in '14 when they first came out. I like the front end of your car and those wheels, I'm betting, look pretty good in motion :y

If you're going to visit the dealer, PM me and I can put you in contact with the right folks there ... if you get as good a deal as I got on my S560 you'll be very happy.

I recently clay-barred the car and have been trying a new coating instead of the carnauba wax that I have used for decades. It's called The Last Coat and is very easy to apply. So far I've been happy with the results. Many thanks for the compliments! :)

The Best or Nothing...

I have looked at 2 S class cars. In the first case it had a bad Carfax. I dug deeply, independently of the Dealer, and got the accident repair bill. The damage was $7700 and included replacement of the front reinforcement bar. That did not bother the Dealer in declaring the vehicle CPO.
In the second case the car also has a bad Carfax. On questioning "It was nothing" and they proceeded to CPO the vehicle.
Hmmmm..."The Best or Nothing" does not apply to the Dealer body...not the car body.

Yes. I’m in the US. It’s matte medium grey. I think it’s more common on S63. Not as dark as Selenite grey and not as light as Iridium Silver.

That looks gorgeous. Mine is 2020 Iridium Silver which I had placed an order for. My salesman didn't even mention this matte grey as an option when placing the order.

Here's mine, a 2018 S560L4 one without the AMG styling. Had a hard time trying to make the Anthracite Blue colour show properly; it's much more gray than it appears in the pictures. Also, no paint correction's done as of yet, I am not sure whether I want to have it wrapped first or if a ceramic coating would suffice.

Finally, not in love with the 18 rims, the tires are too thick looking for this car, but I am not planning to replace the rims soon.

I'm having a 2018 S560 delivered next week in the same color. I was just wondering what you think about it after owning it for a bit. I'm just a little worried about maintenance. I've never even seen the color in person, but it had all the options I wanted, so figured I'd take a shot. Just curious what options you have and how much you paid. Did you get the extended warranty? I did even though there is so much controversy about them.

I love the color. The paint is actually very tough. No special maintenance. Keep in mind to not wax or clay it and don’t use shampoo that has wax in it. Very easy to clean. Fine scratches are hard to see. Look nice still even when super dirty. You will learn to live with dings and chips; cannot do much with those.

I paid $78k for it with 24k miles. Premium 1 package, AMG sport, rims, HUD, driver assistance, rear seat package, designo wood, exclusive Nappa, exclusive trim. Full retail of $125k.

Also got extended CPO warranty for 2 more years for $3850

Sorry, could you qualify that? Why not use wax (or clay it if you are going to polish and ceramic coat it)? I am not trying to be argumentative or anything, but it strikes me as really unusual to not protect the clear coat in any way.

BTW, I've used Swissvax wax on mine with a layer of Blacklight underneath and it worked wonders (until I got it coated couple of weeks ago).

You are aware he is talking about a matte paint / clearcoat, correct?

Waxes (and certainly polishes) ruin the finish by making it shine. I do believe there may some new (rare) ceramic coatings that’s are compatible, but in general the matte paints are to be left alone.

Ah sorry, I missed that, thanks for clarifying.

Thanks for your response. Sounds like you got a great deal. I paid $85K for mine and paid $1000 more for my warranty that the salesman said was discounted 10%. The sticker on mine was $142K with the Burmeister High End, which was an absolute must for me, Premium 1, AMG Line, Warmth and comfort which I really like living in MA,, Driver Assistance, and Exclusive Nappa. But it also has a spoiler that I'm not sure how I feel about until I see it in person. Magic sky control that was originally $5K, which I think is totally nuts and I was quite happy with the normal panorama roof. Heads up display which I found distracting when I once took a test drive with it, but maybe I'll get used to it, and Night View Plus which was $2250, but I never really drive at night and don't think it's that useful anyway. I also have the Exclusive Trim Package, but have no idea what that is. I really don't like the wheels on my car, and like the ones on your car, both black and natural much better, and I'm going to have to give some serious thought to switching.

I'm coming from a 2015 S63 AMG, that I really liked the giddyup in, and depending on how much I miss that, I might just get a Renntech tune. I don't even floor it that often, but when getting on the highway sometimes and I do, I find it pretty thrilling. The only reason why I wanted out of the S63 was it needs new front brakes and tires now, and the warranty just expired. I really don't like the idea of an S Class with no warranty, so figured why put the money into the tires and breaks since I would trade is sooner or later anyway.

I just hope the paint looks really good as I am buying the car sight unseen. If it looks like there are shiny spots from someone trying to buff out some scratches, I'll be pissed as hell!

You got a good deal for all that options. I wish I have those options as well. I didn’t have many choices when I shopped for mine and only wanted to buy locally. Mine didn’t come with spoiler, so I got aftermarket painted OEM from Taiwan on eBay. I think it completes the look. I also love head up display and don’t feel it’s distracting. To be able to tell how fast I’m doing without looking away from the road is great.

I had 2015 S550 before this and loved that one as well except that I keep getting 12 MPG city driving. This S560, I don’t know what they did but it’s perfect. Consistently 18-20MPG city and over 25MPG highway.

You can remove the old ones with a ton of tape and some needle nose pliers, just wrap them really good (on the sides and on the front) then grab them and pull straight out. They should pop right off. I used gorilla tape:

Your car looks so clean that you may want to consider having it ceramic coated so you never have to go through the trouble of waxing ever again and it will shine better than any wax.

So if I mail you some poser badges can we be twinsies? :greddy:

In all honesty I don’t like them anymore either. I think these “overly busy” badges detract from the car. I’m planning on a Weistec tune and will probably put their vinyl decal on there, it’s very subtle on our color.

I am very familiar with ceramic coatings - have had them on many vehicles over the years. But in all honesty I like the exercise of a good wash and wax, and personally think nothing looks better than some real carnuba. Maybe it’s just the hard work talking.

Thanks, I like the classy look. However I kind of regret staying with the super boring rims for winter. For summer I already have a set of these https://www.kunzmann.de/image/fahrze...--14683-xl.jpg I think that will look very classy and much smarter, since they are 19". I dont think the AMG wheels would look good without the AMG spoilers.

Very classy! I may be mistaken, but is that a SWB? Hard to tell from the pictures. I think both your winter and summer wheels are very fitting for this car. Congratulations on the new ride.

Jup, short wheel base! Voila https://www.lastvin.com/vin/1LQyK2rLxGJdevaBN. Car is pretty much exactly the way I would have ordered it. Something quirky, the first owner had Mercedes install a cd changer in the glove compartment ( see "Record 5 Text CD-Laufwerk gemäß AZ82.64-P-0002LF nachgerüstet" on the very end of the VIN link, just realised there is no translation for this one either). Guy was very old. I guess I have the same taste as a 80 year old guy at 33. :D Also, the car is only 2001kg( about 4400lbs) which I think is pretty outstanding.

And looking much better than I anticipated! Well.. at least when set straight... Otherwise they look stupid. And asymmetrical. I admit. But there is something refreshing about them that makes me wanna keep it and go thru the pains of removing the door panel to fish the rgb signal from there...

well worth the effort!
Colors are aligned with factory. Installation is not the most easy thing if you don't have experience removing trim panels, but not impossible with some time (took me probably close to 6h in total to get things done, wired, connected and cleaned afterwards).

yup, edition 1, one of the first W222s to leave the factory back in 2013 actually... beige interior with dark blue/(or graphite?) seats - I did not like the combo the first time I saw it, but boy did it grow on me since ;-)

My main dislike was the sitting position in BMW. For some reason it was always not comfortable for me. I'm 5'10", so nothing extraordinary, but it always was not enough room for me.
Also 7 series drives more sportier and louder then MB. I don't need such a big car to try to be a Porsche and fail on this attempt..
Stereo sucks in both cars unless it is upgraded $5K optioned system.
7 series pluses - IDrive is surprisingly better than MB Infotainment system. I still miss BMW ability to start the car from the key and program to warm up seats and steering wheel if the temperature outside lower than certain degrees.
Overoll MB is better for me. I specifically selected 2020 and 6 cyl engine car. I don't like tesla style interior in the new S class and the deal was too good to pass by. I hope I'll enjoy this car for the next 3-4 years.

Those were my feelings as well, I also found the seats in the 7 to be not nearly as comfortable as the S Class, lumpy etc.

I certainly can, according to the Window Sticker they are [13R] 20" Multispoke Wheels.

Thanks for the photos! I was looking to replace my 18" summer rims on my car and I was considering these; they are cheap enough and classy looking (and I wouldn't want AMG or sport-looking wheels on my S560). Mercedes's website doesn't do them justice, they look much better on a car rather than on the website.

I’m glad that I could help, they were one of the things that swayed me to buy this car versus others!

@Quenthel Just a heads up, I learned yesterday, when I gave my new car it's first wash, that my wheels are powder coated, well, at least 3 of the 4 are! So the color of the stock wheel is slightly different to that which I posted before.

It seems that the previous owner had the wheels powder coated, and then must have damaged one of the rims, had it replaced, but not powder coated! I'm going to try to get in contact with them and see where they got it done, and what color! It's a local car to me, and maybe the dealer will reach out to them for me :duh:

Edit 1
Ok, I am making an edit to this post after a visit to the dealership yesterday. When I arrived to drop my car for a service, my sales guy was walking past and stopped and we had a chat, one of the first things he mentioned was how he liked the wheels (I didn't buy from my MBZ dealer), so I asked him about the difference. He said that the gunmetal color is definitely a standard Mercedes color, but he had no idea about the odd fourth wheel!
Next I spoke to my service advisor, he thought that maybe a repair had been performed and the wheel simply wasn't repainted, so he dug through the vehicle history and determined that yes a wheel had been repaired (in 2020), and he is going to speak to their wheel guy about getting it resprayed, and repairs to the other wheels.

So, new comment and pics!

Edit 2
My Service Advisor had their wheel guy look today, and apparently the one shiny one is correct and as it should be! The wheel guy is of the opinion that the other wheels have been repaired and painted, a few times, goodness know what the previous owner did!
The suggestion is to get all 4 wheels refurbed, and sprayed the same color in one go :smash: I think that I will wait for a month or two before doing that, I can live with the difference!

Very nice! I can see you are missing the same silver line in the grill as I do. I made an ersatz replacement with sculpted plastic and some silver film. Looks convincing enough but at some point I want to properly replace it.

I think it depends on what kind of DISTRONIC you have. I looked it up, but I couldn't order anything from Europe and I didn't bother further.

Thankfully it's on such a busy place that it doesn't get noticed, like, at all (especially with my little jury rigged fix).

The dealer told me that it usually happens because of the bristles in car washes, but I have no idea how true this statement is.

cfmistry 04-30-2022 08:36 PM

I believe this is the part both of you are looking for. It is the entire upper cover (please go and check yours and be sure the upper chrome strip is on that piece).

will_atl 04-30-2022 08:48 PM

Thanks @cfmistry , I too found that part, but I think that’s just the blank plate and not the trim, I think that this might be the trim piece we need (222-888-01-00).

I just found this:
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...bfaba99b0.jpeg

I have something else to order, so for another $30 I may add it to my cart!

As for going through a car wash @Quenthel not any more for mine! I enjoy hand washing, and detailing, it gives me some time to myself!

I feel you, I never machine-washed the car when I got it, but it did live for 3 years as the dealership's chauffeuring car and I doubt anyone bother to hand-wash it. I got it paint-corrected and ceramic coated last year by a professional and now I wash it by hand every month or so. It lives in an underground garage and I usually only use it in the weekends so it doesn't get really dirty ever.

BUT, since I live in an apartment, I have to use one of these "manual" car washes where you do everything yourself and the station provides foam, pressurised water etc. I use my stuff (even for the foam) with the exception of the pressurised water, but I have to go there after midnight when there's no living soul around; people can get really mad waiting me with my 2 bucket system and the 3 hours I need :D (and that's after I had it coated and I don't have to apply wax any more).

I tried to order this (222-888-01-00) and the dealer I ordered from said that it didn't match my VIN, so I asked them what the part number is, and they came back with (222-885-02-26-9040) which is the part number that @cfmistry initially provided. Part ordered, so I will see what they send!

Hey, very nicely done! I haven't taken the plunge yet. So in the end you've ordered 222-885-02-26-9040 right? Any idea about how that is different from the 222-888-01-00 one? I can't find a photo for the second one, though I did find a photo for the previous one aaaand I think the mismatch might be because of whether that part of the trim is actually a door that opens, versus a static panel, but that's just conjecture. I assume you have the 360 camera as well, right?

They are also double the price for some reason!

Oh, also, how did you install it? Did you have to clean anything up, apply glue or dismount anything? Did it give you any trouble? Thanks in advance.

will_atl 05-10-2022 06:22 AM

Correct, I ordered 222-885-02-26-9040, I do have the 360 camera, this is the door, with the trim piece attached.

The install wasn’t too bad, four 10mm bolts across the top of the grill, and then pull the grill forwards. There are three clips across the top and two on the bottom that hold it in place after that. Then detach all of the electrical connectors, I had 3.

From here, place the grill face down on something soft, there are five torx screws holding the camera assembly in place, take them all out.
Push he camera door so that it’s wide open, and pull the camera out.
The door has a spring on it, take note of where it is!
Unclip the door, and your ready to go in reverse. Putting the spring back on the door was a pain, but after that it went quickly.

Will probably fix it down the line at some point, right now the "trick" seems to hold up fine (well OK, not from too close up).

I thought the same when I switched out my grill; I usually do break a few clips. But the grill is surprisingly stout and nothing will break!

It is indeed, I actually had to pry the top clips out of their home. I used a trim removal tool and slowly worked the grill forward, and the bottom ones pulled out by pulling on the bottom of the grill.

Welcome! I like your light interior colour, but what do you think of the body paint one? I have the same on mine, and depending on ambient light and viewing angle, I'm not sure if I see it as blue, gray or black. Some times it looks interesting and others it looks a bit too boring and plain.

She’s a filthy animal, but I wanted to show-off the “European ride-height” mod by BenzNinja. I think it looks… beautiful, as MB designed it.

Having seen it in person I agree! Looks great!

Have you ever considered installing a rear wing?? Just curious; I have a 17 in the same color without a wing. I go back and forth about the rear spoiler.

Funny you should ask, because these photos were taken RIGHT AFTER I took the spoiler off!

Car came without one... but thought it would look better with it. So for the past 2 years I've had the OE lip spoiler. Recently starting feeling that it looked too "tacked on" and took it off. I can tell you that I won't be putting it back on. Both look good, I prefer without. The car has a natural lip to it anyways... so I can't see this being part of the true design.

Quenthel 01-20-2023 07:26 AM

Agreed.

I think the spoiler would be more fitting if it were a contrasting black or carbon, on a white S63. Not big fan of white cars personally, but I've seen some done with good enough taste.]

SW20S 01-20-2023 08:40 AM

I like the spoiler personally, I think the trunklid looks unfinished without it.

Looking great. Can we get some wheel shots to see the spacers in action? I’m tempted to do the same but always hesitating because I like to drive fast and don’t want to introduce any vibration.

Id say go for it. They look much better and no vibrations. As long as you get hubcentric and use proper lenght bolts its all good. I never had issues with spacers on any of my cars. Heres another shot of them from a different angle.

On your long drive home did you get to 100-110+? Still no vibrations?

Also those calipers look to be painted / powder coated FYI. There was no AMG stamp from the factory either.

I installed them after I got home from the trip. I did however get it up to 90mph without any vibrations. As for the calipers, I assumed they were painted as well. Someone did a good job on them because they clear coated over the sticker and everything. Wish it was red sometimes though.

I took the smart option. The detailer spent 7.5 hours on the car non-stop. It happened to be about 30 degrees that day too so I gave him a solid tip!!

SW20S 03-18-2023 10:40 AM

Doing the actual coating is the easy part, the prep is what is really difficult. Lots of time polishing and getting the paint right before the coating. Who did you have do it?

I coat my cars when they are new, but they need very little prep because they are new. I wash them, clay them, do an iron decon, and coat them. But an older car is a whole other process I have no interest in doing myself lol

Yes the prep took about 7 hours while the coating took 30min. Cobra Auto Detailing. I was happy with them and price was very reasonable.

When I did mine it took me 6-7 hours 🤪 Wash/Dry/Clay/Decon/Polish/Ceramic coat 1/Ceramic coat 2. then, wait for 48 hours for it to cure before driving….

Depending on your area anywhere from $500-1000 with $750-800 probably being the average.

SW20S 03-27-2023 05:27 PM

Thats actually a great price for a coating with full prep around here. Lots of places charge upwards of $2,000...

Yup, paint correction is the main pain of this job as you know below 2K is amazing.

cfmistry 03-28-2023 09:34 AM

I should clarify. For a SHOP to do this yes $2k is the going rate. For a guy with a truck, $1000 is on the high end. Obvious overhead differences.

A few pictures of our S560. The only modifications are the addition of wheel spacers, and dark blue Lloyd’s floor mats. Just took a trip to Houston from our home near Jacksonville Florida. These cars are made for trips like that. The self driving features, massage seats, and the overall comfort makes long distance drives very enjoyable.

Random photo of the day. I haven't washed the car in two weeks, but the ceramic coating made short work of the rain and some of the mud from two days ago.
Colour is Anthracite Blue and by the way, I also had the dealership fix that broken silver bar in the camera door in the front for CHF 100 (not too bad).

Yes, I did, with mwmods's OBD2 thingie. It was important for me to be able to easily (and quickly) revert the lowering, prior to visiting the dealer and so far it has worked well enough.

I love the Range Rovers, the SVR is obviously a non-comparison to a diesel S Class but it's beautiful, attracts ATTENTION, is nearly as comfortable as the S Class and makes a beautiful noise. On the downside the fuel consumption is probably 35% the S Class'. The infotainment system in it is lacking compared to the S Class but that's obviously been fixed in the new shape. The new full-size Range Rover D300/350 is a beautiful upgrade to a 222, I would highly recommend it to anyone considering a S Class. I would personally liken it more to a S Class SUV than a GLS. It's comfortable, big inside, has a decent sound system and is easy to drive. The rear wheel steering helps hide its size but it is definitely a wide and long car (my S is SWB). Only issue has been excessive brake pad wear and coolant use; I still wouldn't own it outside of warranty, at least until their reputation is fully repaired. I genuinely think there is no car that's better value for money than a prefacelift W222 though.

The S Class is a non-magic body control with 20" non-runflats, the SVR has 22" continentals and the full size also has 22". The S Class' in terms of ride comfort is somewhere between the SVR and the full size. It feels like you're wafting along in the Range Rover and is definitely superior to the S Class but that may be something to do with my aftermarket low profile Vossens. I have no doubt the newer S Class' are more comfortable, my cousins EQS was more comfortable; I might try a new S Class soon but when I went out in one I felt the jump between the 222 and 223 was nowhere near the jump in the Range Rovers new shape

What wheels are those? I like those and am hoping to find a set in the future.

Those are the OEM AMG 20s.

Not OEM, they make replicas that do.

The OEM AMG 19s are what I have:

New to me. 35k miles, 2 weeks of ownership. This car has exceeded every expectation.

Power, elegance, comfort, performance. Every bit as good as rumored.

after 2 months driving, I can say dricving S is much easier than I thought ...360 Camera is really helping and the fact I can see the front of the car so always have a good estimate of car position in narrow passages and turning :)

Just a quick shot with my little copilot in tow. 2016 S550W4, Executive Rear Seat Package Plus. Love everything about this car, except the base 18” wheels. Noise and ride quality great (markedly better than prior W221 sedan that has Sport Package Plus One (AMG 20”) - but would appreciate the look of multi spoke much more. Is it as simple as ordering and replacing designed to fit? I found some higher quality runs modeled after the OEM that my neighbor (MB Master Tech certified) has used. Can I put 18” run as long as the width and bolt pattern match?

example - says it will fit but wanted thoughts from this group on topic. https://www.ebay.com/itm/304388892708?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=utwurn6groa&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=ZaGLSXH_Td K&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Thoughts?

New to the forum and to Mercedes. I have owned Audi and VW (still love my stick shift Mk7 GTI), but my wife has always wanted a big Benz. After suffering through two consecutive crap cars, she gets an upgrade. We initially test drove an E450 wagon, which I so loved, but it wasn’t roomy enough in the back seat and the suspension was overly firm (for her). The S class with the air suspension was exactly what she was looking for, and I have to admit, it is a fantastic ride.
