USAA question

I am considering a new S550 and am glad to learn that there is a USAA rebate of $4500 for this model. My local dealer readily said that they participate in that program.

I'm wondering if that $4500 comes out of the dealer's margin or if they get made whole on that amount by MBUSA

If that doesn't come out of their margin then I would think I that I would have plenty of opportunity to negotiate further on the car.

If the $4500 comes out of their margin I would expect more difficulty getting more off.

Any input on how that works would be appreciated.

I am a member of USAA and just registered for the incentive which can change from month to month. Once you register, you receive a control number to give the dealer when paying for the car and a list incentives for the various Mercedes models. Currently, the incentive for a 2014 S550 is $2500 and $1000 for a 2015 S550. The incentive of $4500 only applies to the SL. The dealer deducts the incentive amount from your price and he must send the paperwork and control number to MBUSA. The control number is only good for 60 days and after that, it must be reactivated. You are only allowed 1 control number per member per year. The incentive does not come out of the dealers margin.

Yep $1k on 2015 S550 and $2500 on leftover '14.

Go to their site (since you have to be a member to collect) and see discounts.

No $4500 on S550.

And NO the USAA cash does NOT come from dealer, comes from MB as incentive. Don't let the dealer talk you into anything else. Negotiate your very BEST deal, and at the very end let them know about USAA.
