question re custom ordering
If I custom order an S550, am I limited to the sorts of configurations on the U.S. MB website, or not? For example, I might want the design deep sea blue interior, but would prefer not to have to also take the 'exclusive trim' or any rear seat extras such as the power rear seats.

There is a dealer-only web site that you and your salesman will interactively build all details of your car. Many of the options are take-it-or-leave-it, but others are a-la-cart. You can order some seat colors without picking exclusive trim, for example. However, if it is a popular combination that sells well as-is, there is no incentive in breaking the combination. The process is more detailed than what is available on the public web site.

@syswei what you want to look at is the Dealer Ordering Guide. This will tell you exactly what can or cannot be done and is much more detailed than the MBUSA website (and provides a few more choices not listed).
I don't have the PDF file on me but you can ask a dealer to email you one.

exclusive trim isn't much anyway......and is nice, custom order is the only way to go with these....

The exclusive trim is one of the things I wish I had put on my 2015 S550 order. The back doors, while graceful and beautifully crafted, would look a lot better with the wood accents...

power rear seats really add a nice touch for the passengers........makes a big difference in the luxury for the back seats, and yes, the ex. trim has the back seat piece too

all of my rear seat passengers have really liked the reclining feature.....very comfortable

I got electrically moving seats with memory function and heating and cooling feature without the footrest and the folding tables which will make the car tighter and it's kind of useless to pay such amount of money for a car that takes two passengers only

reclining seats are nice but you get 2 seats instead of 3 seats for the rear passengers

Not sure I agree with the statement that with reclining seats you get 2 seats instead of 3 seats for rear passengers.
With my reclining rear seats I can have three passengers with three seatbelts. I have the Warmth & Comfort package which includes the reclining rear seats with a middle seat with a seat belt.

but reclining the seat itself is something obvious with electrically moving seats.

Thanks for the help, guys. I'll ask a dealer for a copy of the dealer ordering guide.
BTW I rarely have rear seat passengers, except on occasion my kids or their friends, so don't care so much about the rear. I never drive clients around. I understand that many of you might have a greater need for rear luxury.
