Stunning car. Congrats!!

Pricey but compare that to a Ghost or optioned Flying Spur. It's twice the car and better at everything. Plus IMO it's more elegant and luxurious than either...

Take some pics of the leather headliner as well when posting some pics.

Enjoy!

Excellent Terminator! Can't wait to see it in person.

Which shop are you going to to do the wrap?

Forgive me if you mentioned this earlier, but why didn't you go for the electrically heated windshield?

Maybe it has the faint lines like the Range Rover that some detest?

I checked this when I ordered my heated windshield and I was assured there were no visible wires, and that you could not tell it was heated by looking at it.

Lines will be there, it is subjective whether you actually notice them or not as they are thin/faint, but some people once they see them can't un-see them

I don't believe you are correct. My answer came directly from a senior product manager at Mercedes Benz corporate headquarters in Montvale who went to the appropriate people in Germany for this answer.

I was specifically told it was new technology this year without the visible wires. I would be shocked if this were not the case.

This would be awesome if truly non visible, but my point is more subtle and draws a distinction since RR says the same thing, ie non visible lines. Hopefully someone with one can post some up close pictures.

I have heated windshield in my S 63 sedan. I don't remember any visible wires when I took delivery but then I only had the car for an hour before I gave it to get few things done. I will post pics once I get it back this week. It's getting wrapped with Xpel ultimate.

Is this something I should be doing? Frankly, I never considered anything like this because it was always noticeable.

I know things have improved. I have very little knowledge of these products.

Can you please help me understand why you are doing this?

The reason I am doing it is to keep the paint protected from stone, gravel, bird poop etc. I had few problems on my 2014 S550. Also the film protects from minor scuffs you get on the door in parking lots. I park far but for some reason people park right next to the car.

One thing is will say is that you cannot tell there is a film unless I tell someone

These new films are very good. I would say at a minimum get the full frontal coverage (where most of the rock chips/damage happens) which would include the front bumper, hood, headlights, fenders, mirrors, and A pillar. There's also a new product called Clearplex that acts as a clear bra for your front windshield to help prevent rock chips. Other areas to consider and are high risk are the rocker panels, and lower sections of the door lines (where the front wheel picks up rocks and throws them back). This is the only way you can drive your car and keep it looking pristine years later.

The reason I didn't go for the heated windshield is that I was planning on applying a tint on the windshield and wanted to avoid any conflicts between the heated surface and the film. The other reason is that I don't usually drive my cars under extreme weather conditions that require features like heated windshield.

Great discussion and Q&A.

We are doing it because we want to preserve the virgin look of the paint. It is easier to apply the film when the car is brand new as you don't have to deal with removing rock chips, scratches, etc.

The general rule here is:
  1. If you want to protect your car against rock chips and other damages while driving - do a full frontal wrap.
  2. If you want to ensure the car is protected both while driving and stationary - do a full wrap.

A high quality film is barely noticeable if applied professionally.

I should have done this: and continue to kick myself for not doing so, to my CLS
the S I'm sure will go towards a trade in the future, but the CLS I'd like to have a long time.....

It is never too late to put the protective film - you may just need to pay a little bit extra for a more rigorous paintwork restoration than doing so with a brand new vehicle (provided it has never been washed by the dealer )

+1

I just had the film put on my 2014 GL63 after a year of driving. He had to clean and fix little damage I had. I have to say it's looks amazing.

What do these wraps cost? And can you remove it after a few years?

Cost depends on your area. I paid $4600 for the S sedan and yes it can be removed without any problems.

I envy - this price is reasonable. Our local detailers in WA want $8K+ for a full wrap. They also charge for removal, some ask for $75/h to remove the old film.

Looking forward to hearing back from you regarding the visibility of wires in the heated windshield. Please do share your impression (with pictures if possible).

wrapped the E class I had a couple of years ago: took the wrap off myself after about 100 days of it being on: wasn't too tough, wonder if it is a DIY job to remove a clear film wrap
I'd try it for my cls, but if I was going to go to that much trouble and expense, I'd rather have a color wrap

Depends on the area as mentioned above. For frontal coverage it can be ~$1,200-2,000 in my area for a GOOD install. You can always find someone that can do it for cheaper, but for something like this, you need a professional installer with a good reputation on working on high end cars. Sometimes the film needs to be cut on the car and you don't want razor scratches all over the edges of the film.

I didn’t post any updates recently as my car was on a truck for the last 1.5 weeks. Plycar was engaged for this delivery and they did a great job making sure that the vehicle arrives safely and without any damages. I will definitely use Plycar again, and will not hesitate to recommend them.

Here are some more pictures of the dusty beast who hasn’t been washed since the time it arrived from Germany. Pictures of interior are still due.
