S600
I can open and close my trunk in my 2015 S600 :
a) from the drivers seat using the pull button in the door,
b) by waving my foot under the left-hand side between the license plate and the light,
c) by touching the open switch under the trunk lid,
d) by pressing the lid button inside the trunk.

Note in each case, the switch/button/sonar is pressed/activated momentarily.

I can also stop the lid from over-opening by pressing the button a second time while it is opening.

I don't get the question, should it close and open automatically?

A safety feature (like it or not).

The switch inside of the car has always been that you have to hold it until the trunk closes/opens. Much like the memory seats.

Just to note:

This is only applicable to MB sedans and wagons.

Their SUVs and crossovers only require you to press the button and you can also close the trunk with the keyfob.

To allow closing from a keyfob (yes I know not the original question) you can purchase a module from Kufatec or some Video in Motion modules.
