Windshield replacement question

Those of you that have had the front windshield replaced on your 2014 S550 due to bubbles or broken glass? How did it come out? Are you satisfied with the replacement? Is the car now as quiet as it was with the original windshield?

I am asking these questions because mine will be replaced shortly. I am a little nervous about the process. It's been about 3 weeks since the order was placed to send a new windshield and it should arrive at the dealer any day now.

The lane keeping assist and steering assist has not been working most of the time due to a few tiny bubbles in front of one of the cameras on my windshield. I really miss those features.

I was apprehensive as well; but it turned out to be fine>the man who put mine in does only that all day long, was a third party if I recall

no worries Bean!

has the problem progressed? or stay the same? interesting that some options don't work because of the bubbles?

I don't think the bubbles have gotten any larger as far as I can determine. By the way, do you know if they have made improvements on the windshield to avoid bubbles in the future? Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing about why the options don't work properly just because of those small bubbles. But the local dealer did a diagnostic test and got the following message: "The field of view of component A40/13 (Stereo multifunction camera) is completely restricted. The system function is restricted."

I can no longer trust my lane keep assist anymore after replacing the windshield. Probably something to do with how they re-installed the cameras but 9/10 times it drives right into the next lane when it previously did not. Probably have to bring it back in but I really really really do not want to see the dealer again at least until next year.

Wow! Now, that really concerns me. I want these features to work as intended. Maybe Hyperion can chime in since he had his windshield replaced. Mine is scheduled to be replaced this Thursday.

Hype, you need to get into the 21st Century.

Honestly, I had figured that pretty much everyone with a new S550 ordered it with these options.

Tell me you're not serious about not having a cell phone.

Maybe you should start a website called "As the Wheel Turns". LOL!

I don't have any mortgage or car payments either. But you are one of a kind on cell phones, being as you are and in the year 2014. That truly amazes me.

There are many days that I wish I didn't have a cell phone. Missing those good 'ole days when you could go for a drive and have some time to unwind and disconnect from the constant "connectedness".

Hyperion, not sure if should be envious of you or if I should think you are unique...maybe a little of both. Hats off to you for being able to live that way!

Ok, back to the original topic...

The windshield issue has me a little concerned. Been following the cases here of replacements and hoping I won't need a replacement and have issues. I love the "nannies" as they make long trips more relaxing for us.

Look forward to updates to find out what is involved with a fix for this.

I am ecstatic to report to you this evening that my windshield was replaced today and Harmon Glass (the local glass place where the MB dealer sends vehicles that need this work) did a fantastic job. All the features, including lane keeping assist, steering assist, etc. now work flawlessly. You cannot imagine how happy I am with this. I did notice one change on the new windshield. It no longer has the Daimler signature at the lower left side of windshield if you are viewing it from the front of the car looking toward the inside. I bet this has to do with bubble forming concerns.

On another note, I mentioned to the dealer when I brought the car in this morning that I have been getting this loud squeaking noise when backing up from the garage in the mornings. They knew right away what the problem was and they replaced the brake pads today as well. Evidently, this was a problem for some of the 2014 S550's. In any case, I am a very happy camper tonight.

Glad to hear the windshield replacement went well.

The Daimler signature is simply a decal. I have replaced one windshield per year since 2000 on my S Class cars. The glass installer told me that I am such a great repeat customer (wonderful!) they automatically get me that sticker along with the windshield. If you really want the Daimler signature sticker, I am sure you can get it from the dealer. I am glad to report that I have not had my windshield replaced yet on my '14 S550 4matic. But I am sure a rock will crack my windshield soon since I very rarely last one year without a broken windshield.

Happy motoring!!

- G DAIMLER sticker to windshield is part 0045847338 should have been included with windshield replacement (MSRP $9.25).
- SC released to replace pads (original pads installed at production have been replaced twice, current part for front 0084200220, rear 0084200820) see here https://mbworld.org/forums/new-s-cla...ml#post6220041

I had no idea the signature is a decal. I always thought that was a bubble waiting to happen. Thanks for the clarification guys.

I am going to go totally off topic here and if the moderator thinks what I am about to reveal is not appropriate, please remove this post immediately. My book, "From Hell to Iowa", was published about 3 months ago. You will be startled to learn about my life's journey and you will also know who I am but I don't care that I will not be anonymous anymore. Here is the link to my interview on Iowa Public Radio this past Wednesday. http://iowapublicradio.org/post/one-...rney-hell-iowa

You will also realize why I call myself "BeanTrader" here. LOL!

Thanks for sharing! I plan on sharing the link with my 16 year old son. This will certainly provide some perspective for him.

Yes now we know that "BeanTrader" has the advantage in the bean and corn trading markets.
