2016 BMW 7-series Spied (And we'll all be grinning)
Some spy shots have come in for the 2016 bmw 7-series...and what a joke. Even though its still in prototype phase, its coming up pretty close to final version. Just imagine some more wood and leather.
Reaffirms S-class as category leader. The current F02 7 is nice (I have a 2014 750) but nowhere near S territory. Enjoy (and cringe for BMW)!

Looks like Bangle Butt is alive and well. Too bad. I guess BMW's selling too many 1/3 series to care.
The center stack seems to be an improvement over the outgoing car...BUT I still don't care for the screen sticking up out of it like that. The instrument cluster still looks like it's straight from the 1980s. Even the "updated" center stack feels somewhat dated for this level of car.
It might be a good competitor to the current W212 (E-Class), except that the BMW 7 is $20k more and in theory is BMW's answer to the W222. I wouldn't want to be a BMW dealer trying to sell these next to a Merc dealer.
Interesting to see 3 different push-to-stop buttons. No doubt BMW's trying to catch up to Merc's Distronic+ Steering Assist. I think I see a laser sensor on the grille, so they're going to have a heck of a time making it happen. The radar sensors Merc is using provide so much more detail and information....and don't get overloaded by sunlight.
I think the W222 shows Merc's been listening to its owners. German interiors have traditionally been spartan and plain compared to just about everyone else. Well-built of good materials, but lacking in style. The W221 had some nice styling but still felt very German. The W222 is Rolls/Bentley territory, at a bargain price. Keep in mind the outgoing W221 was more expensive than the W222.

i've come to this opinion because it looks like this is truly not a revolutionary design that Bmw is going for. They either they do something fantastically different to compete with the S class or this. Unfortunately, they chose this. Just frok the spy shots we get a clear indication of what they will soon release in 9 months, just how the S spy shots made it pretty clear as well...just look up old threads.
Regarding handling of the car, it does not handle anywhere near as good as the S class. Take it from me, i've owned a 7-series since 2002 and S-classes since 2000 simultaneously. Oddly enough, my favorite 7 was a 2002 745 LI. And I car got a lot of hate.

Agreed 100%. I think people forget the W222 rides on essentially the same platform as the W221. Also, the Benz V12 is an antique compared to its' BMW counterpart. One can go back and forth all day. You can bet BMW will release a solid competitor to the S.

As for BMW engines, I have a 750li that already had to have their injectors replaced in under 20k miles.
IMO, BMW's V8/V12 engines are greatly inferior to MB's offerings. BMW forums are full of problems with their engines running too hot, carbon build-ups, rough idling and short engine lifespans.
I consider MB's V8 their high point. Virtually anything else will break on the car before the engine has issues.
That said BMW doesn't spend anywhere the amount of resources and focus on the 7 as Mercedes does on it's S-Class.
Mercedes develops technologies to flow top-down it's model range.
BMW focuses it's development $ on the mid-range (5 series) and then creates an up-market model.
I am sure the new 7 will be a great improvement over the current model, but we'll see how closely it follows the 5 series (with some catch-up electronic tidbits)
