I concur. They are not the same car at all. But, that door open noise was a show stopper for me. I'm hoping MB follows these forums so that in a few years when I'm ready for a new S, they will have allowed us to disable that noise.

Otherwise, it's an awesome vehicle and I'm enjoying following you all through this board until I get mine.

Or is it the one following the initial ding:

And last question, if you put the key in and don't start it, which ding do you h ear?
It's the first one. It dings when you open the driver's door, before and after driving. Since it has Keyless-Go, I never have to put the key in.

Not trying to be combative here, but clearly one could imagine there is more to this story, because nobody can honestly say the W221 overall, is a better car than the W222. That would be delusional.

Again, no disrespect meant.
And I mean no disrespect either.
I think the term "better" in this context can certainly be a matter of taste and opinion.

Coming out of a 2013 S550, I feel that some things about my 222 are better, but, as I have said previously, if I could trade my 2 month old 222 for a 2 month old 2013 221, with my choice of colors & options, I'd jump at the opportunity. To me, my 2013 felt like a nearly perfect car. I kick myself all the time for letting it go. Sure, I love my Exclusive Nappa interior and the Warmth & Comfort Pkg., but to me, those are the ONLY things I like better about my 222.

I liked the 221 styling better--a lot better. I actually feel my Harmon-Kardon system was better than the new one. You know how I feel about having a jack & spare and having the Pano Roof optional. I liked the 5-Spoke 18" wheels much more. My 221 felt roomier and with ABC, it rode what I feel was a bit better than my 2015 with MBC. And, last but not least, being a last year car vs a second year car, my 221 just felt as if everything fit together and worked flawlessly, whereas my 222 just seems not ready for prime time.

No offense, no disrespect, but to me, the 2013 S550 was a much better car than my 2015. Just my taste and just my opinion.

I would be betting if you had a second chance, you'd still buy the W222. The overall appeal of the car is too nice. The interiors are just not comparable, of course, IMHO.

The new interior is just beautiful. I even love the steering wheel, which many here have panned. I don't care for the speedo & tach though and would like to see a return to actual gauges, but that will probably never happen. I do love the top of the dash and the feel of the door panels and center armrest. I absolutely adore the the headrest softness and position. The round air vents are lovely to look at, but I feel the 221 vents did a better job.
Regarding your "second chance" thought, we'll never be able to settle that one, will we? All I can do is wave goodbye to the 221 and hope for better things in the future. So, what are the odds: jack & spare in the refresh? I'm seriously thinking V12 next time.

I (seriously) agree with Streamliner – the "ding" tone in question could have been more nicer, softer and a bit more esthetical. At the end of the day, it is computer-generated. The MB engineers could have allowed to assign a custom tone as one can do with ringtones on cell phones nowadays.

Ok good news. I just talked to my independent tech and he said you can remove that door chime tone completely with the Mercedes Star tool, and accel tool. So there we go, problem solved.

I'm with you on this one Streamliner. Was told it's because of the Keyless Go (which all W222 have). It's across the entire Mercedes Benz line on cars equipped with Keyless Go.

The ridiculous thing is that with Keyless-Go, 99.9% of men will keep the key in their pocket and 99.9% of women will keep it in their purse. You cannot lock the car while the key is inside, so why they feel the need to "ding" us upon getting out of the car makes no sense at all. The only thing that makes less sense, is "dinging" us when we are getting into the car. Why?

I have to admit, I am with Streamliner on this. I have keyless go in my E55 and hate the dinging. I immediately hit the page down/arrow down (whatever it is) to stop it! Not sure what it sounds like in the W22 (been a while since I drove one), but if it's more annoying that the E55, it would irritate me. Yes, I know I have the door open and key switched to a certain position and/or car running. My key is in my pocket, I'm not forgetting it.

But, it's there for a reason... Yes, you can't lock doors with keyless go... But, if something somehow fails, and keys are locked in... Then you have complaints... 6 on one side, half dozen on the other....

My wife is someone who leaves her key in her car wherever she goes...

No problem. I'm just glad it can be taken away.

Now the question is... will the dealer say no when you ask them to do it and call it a safety issue? That would be a typical stealer/dealer response.

If so, any independent shop that has the right tool can remove that annoying beep.

Told you it could be done on the star system. Only problem for me in the UK is that for double the price of calling someone out with a star system, you could buy your own star system. Might seem more worth buying your own star system. There is also a lot of other things you could do, some of which I think you would like.

There are other tools that do the same thing too. If you are a tech guy and like having full control over your car and customizing it, this tool seems like a good choice. I think some in eBay were around $700.

Or, if you are in PA near Harrisburg, my guy will do it for you for peanuts.

I agree with the OP: The door open/close ding and "Don't forget the key!" note on the dash are completely unnecessary and a real annoyance on all four of my MBs. #BanTheDing

Gee, I'm sorry the thought of me is so objectionable to you. Well, I've never done this before, but just to let you focus on something nicer when you hear that "ding," here's a photo of myself from a few years back:

Actually, that's me from an earlier reincarnation. Not bad, huh?
