Additional costs of getting an S - Class (W222)

Hi,

This is my first post on the forum, and I would like to say hello to everybody

I have some questions about the additional costs that comes with buying this wonderful car.

I am a 36 year old Norwegian, that has just moved to the states.
I have never owned a car before, because back home we do not really need cars to get around in the cities.

Now I live in Houston, and this summer I plan on spending 80 - 90 K on a used W222. Not sure if it will be a 2014 or a 2015.

My questions are the following :

1 :
Given my age and the type of car I plan on getting, can any of you give me a ballpark figure on how much it will cost annually to insure the W222 ?

2 :
I plan on treating this car really well, and I understand that I have to respect it in terms of giving it the proper maintenance. How much can I expect to have to spend annually in order to give the car a sensible amount of maintenance under normal circumstances. Let's say I drive it 50 miles per day ?

Thank you all for answers

I really don't have answers to your questions, but I wanted to say welcome to the site and welcome to the U.S.A. Boy! Norway to Houston! It will take a bit of getting used to the weather. By the way, if going for a previously owned vehicle, I would highly recommend the MB Certified Pre-Owned program. I think you might be able to get pre-paid service with that as well. Anyway, welcome and best of luck with your MB.

Welcome!

May I suggest you contact your nearest insurance agent in your area. I'm sure they can give you a ballpark figure of what your insurance will cost you.

Progressive Insurance can give you their estimated insurance figure as well as their competitors' insurance prices to compare.

Hope this helps.

I am 26, pay 260$ for full coverage with State Farm, and i live in houston as well, you can get cheaper price if you live further away from center of the city. Also if you married it will be more expensive

Hi Arlen777, thanks for the reply

Those 260$, is that for the full coverage every month ?

I stay out in Rosenberg, South of Sugarland, so that is probably less than if I stayed downtown then ...

Yes thats a monthly, for full coverage, but if you want to pay less you can get the one with higher deductible and/or chose to cover lets say 50% of the cars worth

$500 total every six months for 4 cars? $500/6 = $83.33/month. $83.33/4 = $20.83/month per vehicle... What insurance company is this with? And what coverages?

I am with State Farm, have 4 vehicles with full coverage, with a $250 collision deductible and $0.00 comprehensive deductible. I pay approximately $415/month and this is with a pretty clean driving record (zero tickets in over five years) and zero at-fault accidents in 8+ years... I will say I have a few comprehensive claims (windshields, windows, car break-in and a claim when I let someone drive a vehicle who got in an at-fault accident, but that claim is paid by my homeowners & personal liability coverages (I have a $5mil personal liability coverage included in the fee for my auto coverage as well).......

$500 every six month = $1,000 a year for 4 cars incl. S-Class? What is it like $20,000 deductible?
I`m 43 and pay $1,200 every 6 month for 3 vehicles with $500 deductible.

Save money and just change the oil

Low mileage (under 50,000 miles) A and B services at MB dealerships are rip offs. My 1970 220 sedan needed periodic service to adjust the mechanical valve lifters and check the brakes. Contemporary MB vehicles using synthetic oil require an oil and filter change every 10-12,000 miles and your car will tell you when. Valves now self adjust and brakes have wear indicators that illuminate when you have about 1000 mile left on them. Consequently you don't need to have your wheels removed to check your brakes. You can't rotate the tires (as at least the 20 inch Pirellis on mine are different sizes front and rear). If the sunroof or doors squeak, you'll know it and they will fix it under warranty when you discover it-- you don't need to have the dealer check for squeaks. You can even top up the windshield washer fluid by yourself! When the car is in for an oil change at your dealer, if there is an obvious problem they will surely let you know. And they will adjust your tire pressure for free if you ask and shut off the service indicator. As far as cabin filter changes, brake fluid and coolant changes, you may choose to ask for thess services dependant on mileage and environmental conditions. These are usually separate extra cost options even when you do the recommended service. And be carefull not to do any service not called for in your MB service book, but on a separate sheet handed out by your dealer as some dealers add a few of their own ideas to enhance their bottom lines. And you can tell by the squealing sound when you need new windshield wiper blades. BUT do have the (synthetic) oil changed at the MB dealer even though about $130 for an oil change is a bit steep. (And timely oil changes are sufficient to keep the car under warranty.)

By the way, I hope you are a reasonably skilled driver coming from Norway and apparently not having a car before. Although highly maneuverable and very safe, the W222 is a very big car and not easy to fit in tight spaces even when equipped with advanced park assist.

Another bit of free advice- if you can spend $80-90,000 for a used car, add $10,000 and buy a pretty well equipped new one. MB vehicles are generally discounted when you ask. Don't be bashfull!

$500 something every 6 months? I'd love to know how that's possible and with which company. If you could pm me that information I would be eternally in your debt.
