The new 2016 Mbrace will offer remote start and remote diagnostic service. Does anyone know if 2015 and prior S class models will be offered this upgrade?

 

based on the news it will only be offered for MY16' and up

Very cool. Looks like it's only 2016+ vehicles. Man, would it be cool it you could just get embrace and it would work back to 2010

Unlike Mercedes, BMW's, Range Rovers, Bentleys, etc. use the Megamos Crypto transponder which can be hacked in as little as 60 sec.

Stealing a car has never been easier and RFID & Smartphone remote connections appear a bit too easy to defeat.

After all, car manufacturers haven't been to keen on system and network security. Hope this changes quick...

 

A retrofit may be possible. My 2004 SL did not come with Mbrace and was retrofitted with it 2 years ago by my dealer.

 

Unlikely. Mercedes was legally required to offer digital TeleAid (Mbrace's prior name) hardware to update the 2004 models since they sold the cars with the knowledge that the analog system was about to be obsolete and didn't tell their customers.
Hence the available upgrade kit (used to be free)

For the features described it requires new RFID hardware, etc.
