So after speaking with MB USA and also their Map company there seems to be a lot of confusion For the MY 2015 an update came out in Dec 2015 For the MY2016 there is no update available.

My '16 S550 4matic was manufactured first week in August 2015 and delivered in early September. My Map version is 5.1 which is the latest. So I would bet that yours is version 5.1 as well but as already stated you should check your version to verify.

I have version 2014 V 3.3. Went to dealer yesterday and they told me that's the latest version. I am reading these post to find that gave me BS as 2015 5.1 is out ?
I e-mailed my advisor tonight to find out the truth along with the PIC of the 5.1 version someone posted. I'm not worried about the lock out while driving as I can't do it now anyway. I use Google maps on my smartphone or at home and e-mail "send to car" from google. When I get in the car, the info is there under POI's. Setup google maps with your cars VIN and you are good to go.

Send a place to your phone

You can send a place you find in Google Maps on your computer to your mobile device for easy access on-the-go.
  1. Open Google Maps on your computer.
  2. Make sure you’re signed in to Google Maps on your computer and mobile device with the same account.
  3. Search for a place.
  4. Click Send to your phone./ CAR
  5. Choose the device you want to send the place

In any case, I used the Bimmerguru download to unlock my ability to enter addresses in motion (as well as USB Video Playback) and simply waiting to see if it is compatible with the new 5.1 version before I get the update.
Thank you for the bimmerguru tip. Can't beat this feature for those who can handle not watching and driving. Though the price s a bit steep $199 you can't beat having the option to watch DVD's and if I'm correct videos from a USB drive?

Do I assume you applied the software ? Was it by CD or Stick ? Were you able to do it without assistance ?

Yes, I did. If my recollection is correct, I believe I put in on a SD Card. I do recall that it required absolutely no assistance and it took about 3 minutes. I have the Rear Entertainment System and the Executive Rear Seat Package PLUS (2 seats in the back with folding tables) and I'm able to insert 2 USBs in the rear center console and my 2 kids can load about 30 movies on each USB and watch them. This is much better than having to swap discs. This was a side benefit because the only reason why I purchased the Bimmerguru download was to be able to insert addresses while in motion. Personally, I think it's less safe to pull over and add/change your desired destination. Not to mention, in our smart phone age, nothing stops you from doing the same thing on your smart phone.

The dealers just don't want to get involved in the map updating of the 2015 S's that come with 3 years of free updates and the 2016's are life time free updates. I still have the 12/2014 version and one came out 12/2015. Next update is 6/2016 but they just don't want to be bothered.

Just as a clarification--'16s also come with ONLY 3 years of free map updates and not lifetime updates. Atleast that is what all my documentation states from my '16 S550 4matic. When I had my '14 S550 4matic, one had to pay for the updates.

Oh, must be the 17's then. Maybe I was told that about the 17 E out soon.

Does the new map update post the speed limit on the maps. My 2016 GLE400 does and I really like that feature. My 15 S550 with original maps doesn't.

My '16 S550 does show the speed limit on the navigation map screen. This may be a benefit of having the Speed Limit Assist on your vehicle options list versus the map version but I am not positive on this.

I was trying to see if there was something I was doing different on my 15 S550 vs the 16 GLE but didn't see any map option I could have changed and chocked it up to the newer map version on the MY16 GLE. I am unaware of the Speed Limit Assist option you are mentioning. Is that an option I have in my map setup? Unfortunately my S550 is sitting in my second home in Florida while I am in RI currently so I can't access the navigation menu. Also, I assume I can take my car to any Mercedes dealer for the map update even though I purchased the car in RI.

Speed limit assist is not available on your '15 S550 that would show the speed limit on the map but is available on your '16 S550 if you purchased the Driver's Assistance Package.

Speed limit assist is part of the Driver's Assistance Package for the 2016 S class and the 2016 GLE. I am assuming you have the Driver's Assistance Package on your GLE since you can see the speed limit sign on your navi map.

That is correct. I do have the driver assistance package on my 2016 GLE. One of the reasons I purchased the 2015 S class was the driver assistance package. Find it very helpful on my long trips to Florida. Just glanced at my invoice for the GLE and sure enough under the 997 driver assistance package is 513 Speed Limit Assist. Wish I had it on the 2015 S class.

Recent Update SA get

Just had MY2015 S 550 map updated at the dealership. SA that checked me in was insistent that the updates were a charge because "they come with a CD". I explained to her my MY had free updates but didn't press stayed professional. Got a call the next day from a different service advisor and he said the same thing. I then emailed him this link http://mb.navigation.com/product-lis...en_US/MBNA/USD and said "if you need further documentation let me know". I got the free update to v.5.1 but he did add that it's only 3 updates which only makes sense if they update once a year.

You must ask and have good information to prove you get what you paid for.

This week I took my '16 S550 4matic into the MB dealer to have the A Service completed at 10,000 miles. The dealer also updated my Navigation Database to the most recent which is listed as Version 7.0 for North America.
