Green Stitching

Hello Everyone,

I know at one point the forum member LovinMercedes got something totally custom done to his S550 order. It got my thinking. I love black interior but I think it would look awesome if I could get the green stitching like in the S600 emerald edition.

I would have the designo Diamond White Metallic exterior with the Black Exclusive Nappa Leather with green stitching.

How does one go about this request? What type of extra money should I expect with request like this?

LM will likely reply, but I think it was ~$15-20K for the custom interior and an additional 6-8 month wait

Wow...

Thanks... I think my wife would have my head at 15-20k for different interior stitch color. More realistically she would say take it to a upholstery shop.

I will have to take a look at the green stitching with the ferrari. I'm curious now...

When I was younger that's all I ever wanted in my driveway. Then I got older and found out how much it costs to keep one of those cars. So now what I do is rent one in vegas for 4 hours @ $600 and drive it like I stole it. Then I get to give it back and it's not my problem. Typically do this once a year and it's out of my system.

When I was 22 I drove a S550 for the first time and fell in love. Then I made it a goal to have a new one by 30. For someone that is 6 foot 6 and 300 pounds nothing is more comfortable. Not even the RR ghost IMHO. So my childhood dreams of Ferrari ownership went out the window when I found the s550. About to make that goal a reality this week at 26 hence all my questions on this forum as I'm getting ready for my order.

I hear what you're saying........it's a big commitment
people gawking, asking endless questions......(like how much did it cost?)
too much attention in a Ferrari I agree.......
Aston Martin allows you to choose the stitch color as well......

I don't think I live near anyone that rents them, but I'd like to do that.....maybe go pick-up my daughter from school

Yes, it is. Between specialty insurance, repair bills, maintenance, etc.

Yes, lots of questions and sometimes rudeness. I remember last time I got hungry and went through the McDonald's drive though (for two cheeseburgers) with the Ferrari 458. I was told by some teenager "I guess after you bought the ferrari all you can afford is the dollar menu fa**ot" I was quite upset and replied with "I wanted to see peasant food" He was shocked to say the least. I wonder if the S550 provokes this kind of rudeness at all. Full disclosure: I'm always nice to people and I know I was nice ordering my food Plus typically in a situation like this I would just go yep, or your right (conflict avoidance). But that day... I just had something to say

I asked about a custom interior in Dec 2014, and MBUSA said:

"Custom paint is $7,150 and a custom leather interior is roughly $17,000-$18,000. All custom order cars carry a fee of $2,500. The reason the costs are so high is that they are manufacturing the interior one off for your car and the car will be painted in a special process as well. A custom paint will add 6-8 weeks extra to production and custom leather about 10, if ordering both I would say 12-14 extra weeks."

If you're serious about it, I'd suggest a trip to Stuttgart where you can go to the factory in nearby Sindelfingen and talk to the Designo folks about your choices. I just got back from doing that for my upcoming 2016 S-Class Cabriolet order.

Please tell us more about what that experience was like (what colors did you end up getting?). I would love to hear more details. I do find it hard to believe though that changing the stitch to a green they already have costs them $17,000 dollars. When it comes to custom paint do you get any color in the world if you have a sample? Or can you just get a color that's on a different MB car?

I would pay $7,150 to get my favorite green ever. imperial jade mica on the LS 400.

I'd like to hear a lot more about that as well. I've heard stories about special color, special interior cars for ultra big buck/petro dollar types in the Mid East. It would be so cool to actually be able to have a W222 built exactly the way you want it. I think I'd go with something like a British Racing Green with a full Palomino interior. As long as I'm dreaming, I'd have them build it without the Pano Roof as well!

I would definitely recommend you red stitch if you have black leather . I know this because I have seen red stitching in a black MB and it looked very cool , may be cool is understatement
From my own experience , I have a black leather watch with red stitching and that color adds a another dimension to the watch

You can only choose a color that MB have put on one of their cars in the past. But you can choose an old SL color for your S-Class, if you want, for example. They have about 12 drawers of color samples to pull out and look through, but each drawer only had about 15-20 colors in it. Attached is an example color sample that I liked.

They also have a PC there among the drawers that have pictures of most of the cars they've custom painted. They showed me this CL63 that has a nice blue I like:

It may not cost AS much to just put green stitching on an offered leather. You'd have to talk to them in the Center of Excellence. My contact is:
Exklusivberater designo / Individualsierung MB:
Markus Triefenbach (first.last@daimler.com).

Is there a way to search though these colors online?

No. I asked. He thought maybe in a year or two, but didn't sound as excited about it as I.

A workaround I found is this touch-up site:
