Mobile phone voice recognition

Just discovered a very handy feature for those of us with Apple phones (Which does not support the email display and read function in Command) If your phone is connected to Command and you have Siri activated on the phone, holding in the iPhone Home button for more than a second will activate Siri through the vehicle speaker system(It basically treats it as a phone call). You can then ask Siri through the vehicle microphone to for instance " Read my email", "Read my unread mail" or "read my messages". It works very well in my car and is very handy when you are driving. The Command manual I downloaded from the App store indicates this should also work if you hold in the voice recognition button on the steering wheel for more than 1 second but I could not get this to work in my car.

My US Spec '16 S550 4matic and my '14 S550 4matic allows/allowed the IPhone 6 to communicate with COMAND so that through the speaker system in the car I am notified of incoming e-mails. I can then read them on the COMAND unit. In fact, I can have the speaker system in the car read them verbally through the car speaker system. The only thing I cannot do is type and send e-mails through COMAND. This is a handy feature of the S Class working with the IPhone 6. You do have to enable this feature in COMAND but since I received my '16 S almost 7 months ago now I forgot how to enable this feature in COMAND.

I like being in the car and being divorced from my email once in a while it's nice to have a break and be disconnected just my two cents

My car does this with text messages but not email. When I try to set up the email in Command it gives me a greyed out message that "Email is not supported by this phone" It may be that the Mbrace connectivity you use in the US supports this but if you connect via a cellphone it is not supported. In any event I will enquire about this with my next service visit.

It depends if you have a pre facelifted car (with COMAND 5*2) or a facelifted car (with COMAND 5*5), that differs a lot when it is about email syncing.

COMAND 5*5 is there since the facelift model, I think that is MY18 (starting production somewhere in Summer 2017)?
But you should be able to know if you have a facelift model easily (different dashboard, steering wheel, etc).
Also: if you have Apple CarPlay/Android Auto from factory, then it is facelift car (COMAND 5*5), if not, it is pre facelift (COMAND 5*2).

A bit OT, but I read somewhere double clicking the talk button on the wheel will activate Siri. That hasn't worked for me, anyone else?

Did you try press and hold the talk button? I remember tat worked fo rme in my pre facelift car (MY17, with COMAND 5*2), but I am using Android (so it started the Google Assistant, but should be similar). My current car is the facelift one (MY19, so with COMAND 5*5) and there it works the same.
