S63 coupe needs windshield... 3rd one in 3 months

hey guys long time lurker here. i did a quick search and saw a few people have complained about the front windshield. I think a pebble hit the windshield this time and somehow within 30 mins it spread to needing a new windshield.

ICBC our publicly owned insurance provider in BC has ridiculous deductibles on certain cars (over 200k canadian.) The s63 has a 4500 deductible so I'm paying out of pocket 2500 for a windshield each time from authorized dealer.

Is there something we can put on top of this? 7500 for windshields in 3 months is a complete waste of money!

It's odd that you are saying this has happened to you 3 times. I'm sure Mercedes uses quality windshields and you would have had this issue with any other car. Is this while driving on gravel roads?

I'm not aware of any film you can apply on a windshield.

Have you tried not tailgating people so much ?

The windshield is an integral part of a vehicle's frame structure. It sounds as if their might be undue stress on your car's frame. Causes of excessive body stress include: an accident where the vehicle might have suffered some frame damage thereby increasing the stresses being borne by the windscreen or suspension modifications which make the car more responsive but less likely to absorb road impacts from reaching the body especially when driven on broken pavement.

If you live in the US, some insurance companies have a zero deductible for glass. I think Liberty Mutual and GEICO have this.

I've had to replace mine from a rock hitting it on the freeway then spreading for about 12" or so, after just 2 months from driving it off the lot, but I drive a lot of freeway miles and usually have to replace a windshield every couple years from rocks, zero deductible though through Liberty Mutual

I would personal look into something like a paint protection film, I can't see something like that not working for small rocks or pebbles.

I've heard of this material. I have not seen it or can vouch for it. I know that race cars have used films on the front windows, that are made of several layers - so during a race pit stop, they only have to remove the top layer and now the race car has a clean windshield.

When I leased my 2015 S550 sedan, I opted for windshield damage insurance through the dealer. No deductible and no limit on the number of replacements. Probably a waste of money, with me living in So. CA. Can't remember the price, but I think it was around $1200.00 on a 3 year lease.

I don't know anything about that product, Paint protection film protects your hood, fender, lights etc.

I tossed out the suggestion to help with his stone chip problems. It just can't be very thick because the windshield still needs to do its duty if there's a crash ever.

I'm really not sure what other options are available.

3m and LLumar and really good brands

Stream,

If they offered that here in PA I would buy it in a heartbeat. For 25 years I have averaged 1 windshield replacement every year on my S Class cars except for my '14 and '16 S class cars. When the W222 first came out people were complaining about how easy the windshield would crack. This is interesting since on my '14 S and my '16 S I have not replaced one windshield. Nonetheless, I wished they offered this in PA.
