Changes for year 2017 S550?

Does anyone know when the 2017 S550 sedans will arrive? May I assume that the advancements we are seeing in the new 2017 E300 will "trickle up" to the S? Thanks.

The trickle down from the E is not going to occur until MY18 according to my dealer. The MY17 S will get the 9 speed gear box and magic sky control panorama roof. Everything else stays the same, according to my sources.

One other item that may change is the 3g to 4g lte for the 2017 S class. My opinion is that MBUSA has not documented this but since it has been such a pain in the --- having 3g they will move to 4g lte like the 2017 e class. I use the internet radio in my 2016 S class daily and seem to call Mbrace every week about the slow internet connection to the car and related issues with Mbrace apps. Every year they seem to throw something in the mix that is not a documented change like from '15 to '16 the remote start on the Mbrace apps. My bet is with about 90% certainty they will go with 4g lte in the 2017 S class.

Additionally many people do not know this but apparently (based on my conversations with MBUSA and Mbrace) the 2016 S Class mid year received the ability (in the US) to use Apple Carplay. I believe the manufacturing cutoff date was either sometime in December or January of 2016. This was based on conversations with MBUSA and Mbrace during my many conversations with them about the Mbrace apps and internet radio.

I hope you are right on 4G LTE, but I bet it doesn't appear until the new hardware is put in the 18s

Here is the reason I am almost certain 4G LTE will be on the '17 S Class US models:

They are using the same equipment on the '17 S and "17 E for the emergency call systems and there appears to be a new manufacturing code on the S class models being built beginning last month on the '17 S Class.

My manufacturing code on my '16 S for the Emergency Call/Support system was 348. The early production models for the '17 S Class (this could be for testing purposes so I could be wrong) are code 351 ECall Emergency Call System (Hermes) and code 362 Hermes-communication module LTE. This is what is going into the early production '17 S Class. The '17 E class production sheets are showing that they are using the same codes 351 and 362. So either MB is testing 4G LTE on the first production models of the '17 S Class or they are rolling them out on the '17 S Class.

I'm assuming that Verizon will be the provider?

I'm assuming, it would be Verizon since Verizon Telematics provides mbrace for the next few years.

Verizon hasn't launched any 4G LTE with its 3 providers yet (MB, Volkswagen and unknown company that they can't talk about) compared to AT&T who has the in car LTE service in a bunch of makers.

FYI--The 2017 E Class is using 4G LTE now and had been documented as such in the Dealer Order Guides.

We also have LTE in the SL now. Plus Apple CarPlay which kind of alleviates the need for LTE in the car

Ran the speedtest app in a so-so coverage area and had 10mb/s down/4-5mb/s up.
iHeartradio and Tunein played perfectly...

Does the 2016 S have apple play or is that for the 17? My lease is up at Christmas, and not sure what I want to get next. I was hoping all the new tech on the E would be on the 17 S, but apparently not....

Is the Apple Car Play addition a software update or hardware change?

No apple car play on the 17 S class. You can't add it. The 18s will have it, supposedly.
