You must be driving the S-Class like your Boxter...
Double Clutches are known for fast shifts, not for their smoothness. This is why no luxury sedans use it (unless you consider a Panamera a luxury sedan).
Mercedes transmissions are learning transmissions (using fuzzy logic) and become slow and lazy with less than ideal shifts over time. Typically due to city driving. It is very annoying and I hope the 9 speeds will be better.
There is a few quick transmission reset procedure, you may want to try that one out...
