Lexus LS500 Reveal
As an owner of an Ls460, I would've liked to buy another one. However, this design is atrocious, do they not listen to their customer base. I am sure anyone that currently owns an ls would disapprove of this design. The front looks okay (except for the spindle grille), but the rear end looks awful and the interior looks cramped. The controls in the Lexus look straight out of an Avalon. The infotainment system has a weird mouse type thing, that seems confusing to use. After looking at the photos, in my opinion, it can't compete with a 7, s550, or an a8. It has been relegated to competing with a ct6 and a continental. Genesis has done a better job than them! GENISIS!!. The only saving grace is the engine, which seems like it can put down the power.

kind of a sad Infiniti redo. Exterior very bland, not cutting edge, and very misguided rear side window treatment. Interior is ok though. Not on an S Class level, but a different Asian aesthetic. The mouse is gone for 2018 - It's a touchpad. Engine sounds better than outgoing 4.6L V8 - will have to see how it compares to the new S550 4.0 V8-TT. They're probably saving a new V8-TT for an upcoming LS-F.
I won't be buying one!

Surprising how badly they botched (IMO) this long-needed update to the LS. That grille is atrocious and the driver's instrument cluster looks really odd with those two knobs protruding on both sides at the top. Other interior features look pretty good, but wow, they got so many things wrong. I had an LS before my S550 and really liked it, but as someone else said, they are no longer competing in this class directly.
I can get used to the interior...the exterior is what is an eyesore. what is with Lexus and the new overzealous grills on their cars of late.....The LS has always been an elegant car. This one here messes it up badly.

After having eight new LS sedans before finally switching to an S550, because of their horrid spindle grill, I like to say that I didn't leave Lexus, Lexus left me.
I have been thinking about making the big move to MB too. Have had many Lexus cars over the years. How has the reliability been in your S classes vs the LS'es you owned?

Compared to the earlier LS models, like my 1997 (my favorite!), not as good, but that was a relatively simple car. If I compare my 2013 & 2015 S550's to my 2007 & 2011 LS460L's, I'd have to say about the same.
my 98' ls400 was my favorite as well. Coming from a 93' Bmw 740il the difference was night and day.
Yes, but they come off of other Mercedes products, not some lower brand. I guess in my eyes the steering wheel is the first thing that I look at when entering a car, and when it is so similar to a car that is 50k less I would feel taken. My XT5 is also a parts bin, but at least to my eye, it isn't that apparent.

I had a MB from 1988 to 1995. Then Lexus LS - 1995, 1998 and 2001. The 2001 LS430 was just a great car. When it came time to replace it at 150K miles in 2015, the spindle grill was just too much for me.
It worked in my favor that I was ready to "down-size" my car, because I found the E400 much more to my liking. Also, if I mapped the option load from my E into the LS line, the car would have cost about $20K more - for a larger car with less performance. I think I made the right choice, although those Lexus were rock solid dependable cars.
