Has anyone seen these colors right next to each other and can explain the differences in words?
Thanks.....

I can most certainly try.
Black is just that. Black! No metallic and just wet deep looking gloss black.

obs Black is a black that’s a metallic. It will have the glitter sparkles in the paint. Not quit as deep of a black as the regular black but still classy looking.

Ruby black. At night and on rainy cloudy days it will have a black look. In sunlight or light the color with change from a deep purple red to burgundy color. I have this color now. It’s definitely a neat color but I won’t be getting it again.

Of course there’s also magnetti black, which is a deep deep gray metallic black.

And, of course Designo Mocha Black, which I feel is actually the closest to Obsidian, with just a very subtle brown tinge to it. MB is going full circle—with a twist—and becoming Henry Ford: “You can have your car in any color, as long as it’s black.” Sometimes, with MB, it feels like that. Year in and year out, there are very few new color offerings, which I happen to feel is truly unfortunate, especially when we are talking about their flagship S Class. Oh well.

Henry Ford gets the credit for a lot of quotes he never made including the one posted above. I have owned 14 Model T's and am well read on the History. Other colors were offered in 1909-1910 and again in 1926-1927. The reason Ford went to Black is that it dried 15-20 minutes faster than any other color formulation at the time and considering that at one point a new model T was run off the assembly line every 30 seconds 24 hours a day the paint drying time saved 10's of thousands of hours in production time. Back then automotive painting involved paint run through a low pressure hose, much like a garden hose, with a spinning rotary tip. Paint was literally splashed onto the parts where they then dripped excess paint into collection trays below the moving painting line and the paint was collected and run through the pump in a endless process.

I agree that if any class deserved many choices in paint color it should be the S Class.

That's something I never thought why he was so obsessed with the black , you ***** shrimp Ford lol
The differences as far as black color is concerned reminds me the differences among House Musics : Deep House, Atmospheric Deep House, Tech House, I Know I Forget A Few Of House

Ruby has a definite ruby color to it and only looks black in low light. If you live in a bright state it will always look ruby. Obsedian to me is the most neutral non straight black they have. In other words it doesn't have a pearl color like the ruby that makes it look like another color. It just looks like a metallic black if that makes sense.

Pearls can change the color like the ruby does looking black and then have that pearl color shift of the ruby or they can be used to add a metallic look to the paint with little color shift which is the obsidian.

I have a verde brook green and it is obviously green/brown just like the ruby is ruby to me but people swear its black. I guess you should see them as everyone sees color differently.

Another story on Henry Ford:

Ford wanted three criterion on the tires for his cars: He wanted them round, black, and cheap.
He was not so worried about how round they were, nor was he worried if they were block enough.
In the end he simply wanted them cheap enough.

Henry’s two best buddy’s were Thomas Edison and Harvey Firestone. Henry would take them camping in the West with dozens of Model T’s filled with modern ammeities including cooks . They had Summer mansions next to each other in Florida.

My 2016 S is Ruby Black. IMHO it is the best looking color at night, absolutely spectacular in moonlight; I regularly get compliments at night. Not happy with it in direct sunlight, tends to look somewhere between maroon and brown; aggravates me when valet ticket says brown Mercedes. So net net, I'm tired of it after 3 years. Back to plain old black I think.
