Texas is a 2 plate state and I was pulled over few months ago by a state trooper and cited for lack of front plates.

I am about to place an order for AMG GTC with Euro Delivery and your post was most helpful. I have a quick question, In the pictures, I noticed your car has front German plate, was it mandatory to put the front plate? Reason I am asking is that I am in Texas and we don't install front plates and I am concerned about the holes that the front plate could create.
You have to have both plates in Germany, so they will install the front plate mount. Many people in one plate states end up having the mount or the two holes in the front bumper. BMW euro delivery doubleside tapes the front plate on request. I dont think Mercedes will honor this request however. Maybe they can make an exception for the GTC....can ask dealer.

14-17 models only heated leather portion of the steering wheel. The 18 model warms up the whole wheel including the wood.

Here is a closeup of the 20 inch amg line wheels:

I did EDP in 2014 for my S550 (in the exact same spot in the CoE as the pictures here ). They did put the front plate holes in the bumper. Even though I do not need that in Florida, I keep one of my EU plates on the front (and the other one on my wall) and I mounted a SunPass transponder under the plate. That way I do not have to have a transponder inside blocking the view. EZ-Pass has front bumper transponders too for those in EZ-Pass states. Even if they offered the double-sided tape, I would have gone with this method as I enjoy seeing the EU plate on the front (easy to spot immediately at the valet stand).

I am so glad to learn that I can still do EDP for the S Class. I did not see it on the website and with the recent incorrect stories about Mercedes jettisoning the program, I was concerned I would not be able to do it again.

I will also offer a glowing review of Herbert. We delivered to a dealer in Tampa but Herbert handled everything. There is a write-up of my whole trip on here somewhere. It was the best car buying experience I have ever had from start to finish. I still love this car like the day I bought it. Courtesy of a great detailer and OptiCoat, it still looks like it did on the day I uncovered it in the Center of Excellence.

How did you get more than 7% off? 3 dealerships told me the same thing "The pricing is controlled by MB Corporate and would be 7% below MSRP minus the $995 destination charge"

That is nonsense. But it's easy for the dealer to defer to a third-party and not have to give a discount so I guess they would try that tactic. But that is all it is—a tactic. The dealer has room to adjust. The dealer I purchased from offered the additional discount. Find another dealer.

OP in 1st post explained how this works. Of course the three dealers you spoke to don’t want to share part of the 10% commission with you unless you know about it and you negotiate for part of it. So MBUSA sets the manufacturer discount whereas local dealer decides whether they want to decrease their 10% of MSRP commission to sell you on Euro Delivery. Knowledge is power in the business of dealing with car dealers.

Does anyone know how the the economics work for the dealer? Not considering the destination charge, if a dealer is willing to offer let's say a 10% discount for an ordered U.S.-delivery car, what might he be able to offer for ED, and still have the dealer's economics work out the same?

My understanding is that the dealer only receives the 10% commission and that is it. They don’t receive holdbacks, etc like on other cars. So the economics appear to be simple—dealer receives 10% commission and if they want to share part of that with the purchaser one can get a discount greater than the 7% or 5% (AMG). But it they don’t want to share their commission to provide a greater discount than advertised then some dealers say “MB Coroprate controls the pricing”. No the dealer just does not want to share their 10% commission. So find another dealer that does want to provide an additional discount.

When I tried arguing about extra % off on top of the 7% all 3 said take it or leave it. But I'm trying to get 2019 C63 Coupe haha... Will keep trying, just sent an email to the sales person that OP recommended. Thanks guys!

That is great! You got 2% more than the 5% AMG Euro Discount. You did say you were trying to buy a C63 coupe—correct? Not sure who Jay is?

This has been very helpful! Thanks for the information. One question - Was it difficult getting financing thru the credit union? I have heard that you must go thru Mercedes because of the delay in receiving title. Did you run into any of this?

Credit union financing was very easy. After being approved I sent them a copy of purchase order and they cut check same day. Alliant is a great credit union for new cars but even better is Teachers Federal if you are in NY (will let you become a member if you live or work in any long island area even regardless of your profession). Title came in mail a few weeks after registering car at dmv (standard procedure in New York). Your dealer may be pushing you to go with their financing so they can make an additional profit on part of the interest rate.

If you are financing......About 3 weeks after you drop off your car the selling dealer will receive the MCO (Manufacturers Certificate of Origin). With this you can title your car. If you titled immediately you would have to pay state sales tax probably 6 to 8 weeks before you get the car and if something should happen and the car was totaled on delivery (but replaced by Mercedes) it is quite likely you would lose the sales tax you paid on the first car. Having the lending company wait for an extra 6 to 8 weeks for the title could be a problem so suggest you lay-out the timetable to them in advance. I financed thru USAA and it was no problem with them waiting. (I got the loan in late March and finally registered in mid-July !!! I received the car on July 5) MB Financing is also an option and could be used for interim financing. Just pay off the loan by securing new loan with your company of choice after you got the car titled and registered. There is no penalty for early payoff although you would be paying more interest for probably 3 months. That is not ideal but this would take care of the lenders reluctance to wait for the title to be issued.

Great write-up on European Delivery! Next week I'll be going to my dealer to sign papers for an Iridium Silver SL 450 with an ED date in late Spring of 2019. I have a purchase order number for a "Generic" SL for the first decade in May. I had asked my salesman if they offered an additional discount and he said he wasn't sure. I'll be using your method to see if I can get a better deal.

Skeridan,
Just doing some quick pricing for ED - MSRP 107,000 - 1,000 (delivery) = 106,000 X 93% (or 7% ED discount) = 98,580 X 10% (Dealer profit) = 9,850 for the dealer
Using a 10% customer discount: 106,000 X 90% = 95,400 X 10% =9,540 dealer profit. That's only $310 less for the dealer while it's $3180 less for the customer. Do I have this right?

Dealer profit is $9858 at standard 7% discount.

If you get the 10% discount, you would be paying $95400 and the dealer profit would be $6678. The whole $3180 gets eaten by the dealer if they ok the 10% discount. This is still considerable profit for the dealership, especially considering it does not take away from their standard allocation and it counts for any sale volume goals/bonuses they have for their sales team. It's just an extra deal on top of whatever else they have going on. It's not like they have to consider an opportunity cost for this deal by possibly selling it to someone else since the car does not car from their lot or any future allocation.

And honestly since its for next year I'd even ask for a 12% discount with a sizeable deposit to entice them.

Thanks for the clarification. I've been working with a salesman for a year toying with the idea of an SL (my SLK was starting to rattle) and was excited when I learned about the European Delivery program. I sold the SLK in August and am looking forward to an SL. It's going to be a long wait, though, I've asked for an early May delivery. They set me up with a PO for a generic SL for my May delivery and next Tuesday I drive up to sign papers. My salesman has always gotten back to me quickly, even when on vacation. At this point only the 7% from MB is on the table. My goal is to strike a deal that I can be happy with and that the dealer can live with.

I am close to my Euro Delivery and had one more question about financing. Did you get the VIN at the time of funding your purchase? I am being told by several that you have to have the VIN number before you get the funding released.
