2019 S560

The most surprising data point on the 2019 S - MBUSA is not bringing the new M256 I6 engine to the US, the 450 still dogs it with the old V6 biturbo. At this price point, for what is supposed to be the benchmark sedan in the world, MBUSA has to be offering more.

Great news for those who have a 2019 S Class sitting at the VPC. I just had a call from the General Manager at my dealer in Des Moines. The S-Class vehicles were released yesterday. I imagine this includes the S560. The GM told me that he will do all he can to have my S450 expedited and he will have more news on Monday about the shipping.

I avoid new important things like engines like the plague. It's a strategy that has worked well for my German car buying experience.

There are some of us who are buying the 2019 S just because it's not the M256 engine. In fact, if I find out that MY20 is bringing that engine to the US, and if I haven't bought my car by then, then I'll buy the MY19 even if that means MB doesn't offer the $10,000 discount for those who finance/lease.

The inline 6 has been on other models outside North America, the 48 V system was on the E class first. Likewise some of the electronics, command, nav etc. The new transmissions and engines as they appear are always on other models for a year or 2.
The new car testing is done on other models first. I will have no hesitation in ordering the new design W223, most of technologies will have been around somewhere first.
Not to dismiss minor first year gremlins, but they will be minor.

Mercedes is really conservative with new technologies in the S Class. They don't need the bad press on their star star.

I am not sure but I can ask. I do know that my car has been in Long Beach for over 6 weeks. So it's just sitting there...... I can ask him tomorrow. I am sure it's just waiting for a car carrying truck.

Yes that is what my worry is. He said he checked today and there was "no new updates" to my car, which is the s560. So I am thinking the same thing. He's been on the ball with the communication and obviously he is as frustrated as I am so I would imagine he would have told me if my car was released. He's been with MB for 22 years so he's not a newbie. I will ask him specifically about the Netstar status tomorrow.

its just one of the status.. from the time the cars get to the Port they then go to VPC and here is the breakdown for after it’s at VPC:
D1 VPC RECEIVED
D2 SURVEYED AT VPC
D3 POTENTIAL DELAY
D4 READY TO DELIVER
D5 RELEASED TO CARRIER
D9 WHOLESALE/CONSIGNMENT PENDING
F1 WHOLESALED AND INVOICED
I1 RETAIL
—————
there was a Z50 on some cars over the weekend.. which was some type of processing code. Every car should show the current status code in Netstar. Your SA will be able to look into Netstar and tell you what’s your current status code. I got the E450 Coupe it went to D5 as of this morning when I asked my SA. That could mean it’s already on a truck or waiting for the truck.. the car should be at the dealer tomorrow but def no more than a few days.

yep... well if the current status is D5.... so that means the VPC has given it to the carrier now it’s up to the carrier to transport so that usually happens In a day or few days.

Update for those in the queue
My 2019 S560 was built two weeks ago, and has just been assigned to a ship, with no further dates for transit to Long Beach. My guess is that the delay was to wait until the VPC was cleared of the current inventory. It looks like my overall wait time will be at least 4 months from the original order.

I'm SOL! My car was released to carrier this morning but as of that time it was not on the truck. So, basically there is no way it will be here by Saturday morning so I could take possession by later Saturday afternoon. Oh, well. I will have something great to look forward to when we return from Boston about September 27. Also, the GM told me they will not lower the trade-in price I was promised even though the 2014 S550 will have an additional 3,000+ miles on it.
