what is this hunk of plastic?

I was driving along and heard a scraping sound from the right front wheelwell area. Turns out I was dragging this thing. It is hollow plastic. Below where it says "weidmann plastics technology ag" there seems to be an MB logo. I suppose it could be from someone else's MB, though.

One of three engine compartment water collector drain pipes, any work performed on vehicle recently. Have dealer reinstall and check all under warranty.

Thanks for the replies. No work has been done on the car lately. I'll take the car in and hopefully they don't try to tell me I ran over a branch or something and therefore have to pay.

In general, you can "google" the part # and it will take you a description...

Thanks that worked...konigstiger turned out to be spot on, the description is "drain tube". And it is from a W222.

I had the same exact thing happen to me after driving through a partially flooded roadway. Seeing that yours is wet, I'm betting you did something similar right before you started to hear the scraping. When I went to my dealership, the service rep new what it was and what happened before I even opened my mouth. The head mechanic said they don't even bother replacing the part since they have no effect of performance. Mine has been sitting in the trunk of my car for six months.

Interesting, thanks. I had driven through a puddle on my right maybe 5 minutes before, I was going maybe 40 and it was probably no more than 2" deep. I am surprised your dealer wouldn't replace it / reinstall it? If it is truly 100% not needed, I don't see why it would have been designed into the car in the first place. Anyway I have an appointment to take the car in next week, I'll see if they replace/reinstall mine.

I had a similiar piece come loose on my R230 a few years back and was told at the MB dealership that it was a air channel to cool the motor mount on the right side!

I was told it is a drain tube for the windshield cowl on the passenger side. When it fell out, I found it hanging behind the right front tire. By the look of the thing, I would think there was another piece underneath it that it should have been connected to that was probably lost altogether.

This just happened to me (puddle/part fell off)

To the gentleman who took this to the dealer in 2018 to see if they agree that this does nit need to be replaced…what was the outcome from that visit? And if you did have it repaired, what did it cost?

Thanks in advance!

2022 AMG GT 53, 2020 Sl450. Did drive 2018 S450
Happened to me. Not covered under warranty as they said it must have hit something apparently. Charged me a hundred bucks. It fell out again two weeks later. Couldn’t be bothered to waste time taking the car back in. Read here it’s not a big deal to leave it out.

S560
I lost one in my 2015 S550 and both in my 2019 S560. For some reason it happens when you hit a deep puddle with a little speed. I was driving in the rain around 35mph through shallow puddle after puddle one night and happened to hit a 6" lane wide puddle in a depression. The car slowed hard and I braked to slow it down. Right after the puddle both sides were hanging down scraping. I had a similar thing happen on my 2015- I remember driving in the rain and hitting a large puddle on the right side and immediately it sounded like I had a stick stuck under the car- sure enough it was this tube.

2019 W222 S560 4Matic /2019 Chevy Suburban Premier
I recently got a 2019 S560.and found this in the trunk.
googled the part number and read here that it's no big deal.

Fast forward a month, I'm changing out fender liners.
On the pass side, with the fender liner off, you can see where this goes, top left thing sticking down.
You can also see that if left unattached water and dirt just flows down the inside of the wheel well, unchecked, near some important stuff.
Need to fix that.
Glue the inside of the tube so it sticks to the main drain.
This way it won't come out again.
Then run the end of the tube out of the space at the bottom (ground facing) of the fender liner, behind and to the left of the wheel.
Do not leave this off. If you do, water and dirt deposit all over and behind the pass door area.
With all the drain problems they had with the W220, I am sure there is a reason this tube is where it is.
Just saying...
