New Michelin Pilot Sport 4s to noisy - advice on quiet tires?

I just bought a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4s for my 20 inch rims on my s550 and all I hear is road noise. the car was so quiet before with some crappy tire on it.
Can someone suggest some options that may ride more quiet?
TireRack said I can return the tires but they have to be exchanged for Michelin or Goodrich tires.

I had good luck with the Pilot Sport AS3 tires. I am running the RFT tires from Michelin now and they are OK, pretty loud but that is the tradeoff with RFT tires.

I find the Bridgestone Serenity Plus to be very quiet. Also the Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires are quiet, not sure if either of these is available in your 20 inch size. I run 18's. Your not going to handle as good as with the Super Sports, but this is a luxury car not a sports car.

I have had several sets of the Bridgestone Serenity Plus tires and I just LOVE them! They are virtually silent, long wearing and, in my opinion, a relative bargain, price wise. They are non-run flats, but I carry a W221 compact spare in my trunk, which I would do, even if I were using run flats.

On my s63 it came with the 3’s ( has a foam in it to help keep it quiet). I saw all the reviews on the 4s so I bought them. 2 days later returned them. It has some better handling but the ride was rougher and the noice was so much worse. Went right back to my 3s

Continental Pure Contact

I put Continental Pure Contacts on my E350 about a month ago. Much quieter and much more comfortable than the Michelins that were on it. I have always found Michelins expensive, noisy and harsh riding.

I had a bubble on my Goodyear run-flats and got Michelin P4S based on the reviews. I thought the tires would be quieter and the ride softer, but it's not that much better than the Goodyears... it was quite a disappointment

However, the grip of the tires are outstanding. I was on a trip and when I hit the canyons the car turned and felt so planted for such a heavy car. It was an amazing and I felt confident driving the car. That's the main positive from the tires.

I think for those that have the 20 inch AMG wheels are limited to the tires we can get in terms of comfort. I have looked at TireRack several times and it still seems that the Michelin P4S are still the best tires we can get.

I have those tires on my 430, and like many high performance summer tires they are not that quiet. I put Bridgestone All seasons ties on the 550 (since it is not a sports car and gains nothing from max performance summer tires), because it is a car I use mostly in the cold weather (my 550 is in storage now) and 4S's would be of little use when the temperature is under 40 degrees. If you want comfort go with an all season tire.

Did you get the older Pure Contact or the new Pure Contact LS? I installed the Pure Contact on my E class a few years ago. I have about 50,000 miles on them and the "S" wear indicator on each tire has worn off, which means the "Snow" traction is gone, so I'll have to replace them with a new set before winter. My Pure Contacts seem pretty loud on the highway, so I'm hoping the updated LS version will be quieter.

Key features of the new PureContact LS include:
  • 10% improvement in Wet Traction and 23% improvement in wear over the PureContact - EcoPlus Technology
  • A 50% reduction in noise over the PureContact
  • Traction Grooves specifically designed for snow performance
  • Quick View Indicators:
    • Tuned Performance Indicators enable the driver to see when the tire is no longer performing optimally in Dry, Wet or Snow conditions
    • Alignment Verification System shows the driver when it’s time for an alignment

Got the new LS ones purely by accident. Wasn't aware they were out until after I got the new tires. Fortunately, the LS' were the ones shipped to dealer. I had to contact Continental to find out how to read the indicators. Guess the dealer could have showed me if I had asked, but not aware of them at the time.
One aspect I learned from Consumer Reports is that old tires may get slightly better MPG than new ones simply because they have worn down enough to imitate fuel efficient tires.

Historically, Michelin passenger tires tend to emanate a bit or road noise due to their construction and design. I currently have them on my 2018 E400 and while they wear out extremely well as compared to Continentals and Pirelli's, they are a bit noisy. Would not trade them at all.

If I may, I also have them on my 63.......only had them about a week. they are louder but the performance is incredible! They are the stickiest tires I have had to date. Also, everything I have read says how well they wear too. Mine have a 30K warranty......wonder if I'll make it that far

I've seen the reviews on this forum, but they are not available for 20 inch rims.

I must have missed it then, because I didn't see those tires at all in tirerack.

I'll wait til the P4S wears out and see what other option there will be at that time. But, these tires are definitely not quiet.

Tire reack removes when they are out of stock. Try discount tire. Also, you could do 255's also for wide look and won't cause any issues.

Seem the OEM Michelin and Pirelli‘s are louder from your feedbacks. I like my Continental none run flats from the factory. Looking to get the Contisportcontact 5s with lower profile ( 255/30/20 ).

I recently took a ride in my neighbors new S63 and the PS4S's were also noisy. I had just ordered some (22"s) for my S65 and called Butler Tire here in Atlanta about the noise, and they swear that if a PS4S is making noise something else is wrong (i.e. installation). They swear they are the quietest tire available. I love the grip these PS4S have so I went a head and ordered them. But on my BMW Alpina B7's I have Continental ContiSport Contact 5s. If the PS4S's are too loud after they are installed, I'll return them for my normal tires.

They certainly are a bit louder, and I think the guy saying it's a quiet tire is kind of over selling IMO. I can only imagine if you guys can 'hear' them in your S class, then they are pretty noisy since it's such an insulated cabin. And yes, they are extremely 'grippy'.
