Woe betide you if you need an S550 windshield!

I also sent an e-mail to MB mgmt in Germany. Got a standard reply back that their 'experts' will look at it and respond. That was almost 3 weeks ago and no reply. I don't expect any. My conclusion after this windshield fiasco is that MB is a low quality operation.

My good friend is 100% German and has a great saying. "You can always tell a German,..........but you can't tell him much"!!!!!!!! Tell any German automaker there is a problem....and they will explain how it was designed correctly and you are the problem. They literally have parts delivered at the exact hour they are going into a car so as not to need room to stock anything. I am sure someone is not connecting the dots and the windshields did not keep up with demand. Something is wrong and someone is at fault....they just aren't looking for that yet. It really is ridiculous and it is considered a safety item.

If its a leased car or its under warranty claim its unsafe to drive as is and ask the dealer to give you an equivalent loaner. If you're making monthly payments, have them waived until your car is fixed. (Works if you are driving a lesser loaner for over 30 days) My friend did this exact thing. He had a defective car, got a loaner which was 2 models lower than what he leased and complained to the dealer that while he was paying for an expensive car in actuality, he was driving a much lesser car. They refunded his monthly payments for the months he did not have possession of his car.

Neither applies unfortunately. It's not leased and it's fully paid off (I don't like car payments).
I did hear from MBUSA again in email saying my dealer would be giving my glass installer an update on availability. They didn't share with me in that email what the update was though so I'm asking them for that detail. I'm doubting it will be good news.

Miracles do happen (or more likely rattling MBUSA VP's cage eventually works). Just heard my dealer has my glass in and my installer will be able to install shortly.
It only took 2-3 runs at the VP questioning whether this was really the level of service he wanted to be known for to get things moving.
Hopefully this is the end of my 6 month ordeal. The installer says it is a completely new part number (not in his system or the dealer's!) but MBUSA are saying it's the correct one now. Fingers crossed ?.

Totally agree. For an auto maker of MB's caliber to have a problem like this is just unacceptable. And it isn't the first time for this windshield according to my installer.

Precisely. Have been thinking about getting a 2019 S-Class, but after this experience, am not so sure. It points at mismanagement at MBUSA as well as Daimler. Besides, MB is working on the next version which will obsolete the 2019. So I probably get something else.

Congratulations! I had my S550 at Safelite yesterday. They installed a Chinese windshield and calibrated the systems. The head-up display, steering assist, lane departure warning, rain sensing wipers, etc, work as well or better than before. So far so good.
