Funny thing , discussion here is about whether the S-Class is "noticed".
I am strongly considering getting rid of my Supersports and wife's Lusso, too many negative reactions from folks at gas stations or even Whole Foods parking lots( both are daily drivers).
We are both just really getting tired of this, this is a different populace then 10-20 years ago, more resentment, jealousy and outright hostility to anyone perceived to be more fortunate then themselves (like a lady today in a $120k Tesla screaming obscenities at me for no other reason other then that I happened to stop at a stop light next to her with the top down on my Bentley).
I think my wife will drive a G63 and I will switch to an S63 very, very soon........
Around here these are considered "normal".....

I have to say I find this to be upsetting. Trust me if I could afford a G/S63 I'd rock them with the biggest s##t eating grin. But you and your wife are fortunate to drive cars that are a cut above and that you both chose for a reason. If the community where you live is changing, perhaps it's time to move.

Ok you think switching to a G63 the most recognized obnoxious car made will help???? I sold my G wagon for the exact reason. There is NO car like a G wagon that garners attention and most of it negative. The funny thing is you hate it but also like it at the same time. I don't care who you are or how much you have we all like attention it is jus the timing of when it is given.


It is funny though how people can come up with an entire story about you based on how you look and what you drive. I had my kids friends parents go off on me all because I parked my G a little off center. They went off from how I was privileged to my financial situation while I just starred at them not even knowing what just happened.

If you are daily driving a Lusso why do you care what anyone says about anything, you are doing more than fine. Hire a therapist to drive with you and calm you down when it occurs. Thats serious cash big guy!

Not that I condone her conduct, but was there any element of specificity in her complaints? As you suggest based on her car there wasn't necessarily a wealth gap. For example I hate it when somebody trash's my environment with loud music.

Unreal man! I too have felt this resentment from people......."why do you need such an expensive car?" or my favorite, "it must be nice". I have real friends too so these superficial people don't get to me too much....but yes.......it's a classic case of the 'haves' and the 'have nots' I guess.

I'm in the DC burbs, and the S has been replaced by the GLS. Plenty of Range Rovers, Range Rover Sports, Q7s, Cayennes, etc. Definitely see sedans in general being replaced by high-end SUVs. It is amazing how abundant 6 figure vehicles are around here...

That woman in Tesla was screaming something about destroying Earth, environment, I think, it was really hard to understand.
My sound system was off.
Usually I don't care what folks think of me or my cars so therapist is not needed but finding cars (on return from store, restaurant, etc) covered with spit, once even with cracked eggs and twice with a full length key scratch (thankfully the car was wrapped with clear film to protect against chips), gets tiring after a while.
This is the first time we decided that life is short, we are empty nesters and decided to splurge on cars that otherwise we would never consider before for daily use.
Well, we underestimated the folks around, it's a very affluent neighborhood and you would think cars like that would be more accepted but we were wrong.
G63s, while normally considered "obnoxious" in most areas, are considered "normal" here and there are plenty of them driving around so folks do not pay any attention to them (likewise S-Class).
Switching back to these would just make our lives a little bit less stressful.
S-Class is the most stress reducing car in the World after all, isn't it?

I get this all day long - "look at you, how far have you come", "things must be nice for you", "you are moving up in the world".

Honestly things are getting worse over past few years. In the medical field if a doctor has a S63 then he or she must be doing something wrong but a celebrity having a Bugatti is perfectly fine.

I have not paid much attention to this thread, but read some of the posts today. Geez! I have owned many high line cars over the past several decades—first in the Westside of L.A. and more recently in South Orange County—and I have NEVER encountered anyone making negative comments about them. Never had anyone spit on them or deface them. Could any of these problems mentioned by others have anything to do with controversial bumper stickers or slogans adorning their rides, taking up multiple parking spaces, flipping off other drivers, road rage??? Just sayin.

That's part of it, but it's more about our social mores decaying to a point where so-called 'victims' feel empowered to attack those they perceive to be oppressors, regardless of the truth...

I'm in the city and yes, lots of high-line SUV's on the city as well. Six figure vehicles are abundant for sure. Largely due to the conservative nature of this city, you don't see as many flashier cars as say Miami or LA, so the S Class's, Ranges, and top line SUV's are fairly common. Some of the wealthiest people I know drive E's and they could easily afford multiple Rolls Royces if they want.

I think that CA may not experience this but I definitely see that in midwestern states. We experience the most aggression from guys in pickup trucks. My wife more than I. Not that we drive expensive or outlandish cars either.

If we would be driving SUV’s, nobody would care no matter how pricey the cars...

No stickers of any kind on our cars, we are careful to park away from the rest, always trying not to “offend” anyone.
Driving current car, I am more courteous to other drivers but never see any gesture of thanks for letting someone in my lane when others pretend to look straight forward

I have had multiple very complimentary comments by the people working at the carwash on my 2019 S450. Typical comments include "beautiful car", "what an incredible car", "this in the best car to go through this carwash", etc., when I approach them after they finish wiping inside and out.

I don't like to spend too much money on a car so even an E class is excess for me (own an A220) but I have to agree with some of the posts on car design, they all look alike these days. There is something missing that defines a car as a classic that seemed to be so much more prevalent in the past. It's fine to have people notice your vehicle and sometimes you can have interesting conversations. The other day I met a guy who had a limited edition Volvo that was fairly expensive, he had several missing teeth lol, priorities?
