All great points.

With regards to the A8L - it is surprising they couldn't launch it with a V6 and V8 option (let alone the W12). They thus forfieted their marketshare to BMW 750 and S560. The other competitor made the same mistake. Jaguar XJ AWD only comes in a V6. If you want the V8 - you have only a RWD platform. Huge mistake.

There is little doubt that the picture posted earlier is a photo shop version of the spy photo caught earlier of the new Mercedes S interior from a polish magazine. What is not disputed are the original spy photos snapped by Motor1 earlier this year. It does not reveal the vents, but definitely shows the two hideous Ipad like screens.

When all else fails....copy Tesla.

Bentley is pretty aggressive about increasing their market share but don't expect any great lease terms at the beginning.
"Wait and see" is the typical approach, see how the sales perform before coming up with any special programs.
Having said that, we will (most likely) see very aggressive leases on the new upcoming Hybrid, great performance and reasonably attractive price (average S63).
Flying Spur Hybrid will be the "smart Buy" of the entire line.

I never want to get into a brand/model dispute with anyone on the internet. As I'm sure you feel the same way, to each their own Here in my neck o' the woods I'd rather catch rabies than go to another MB dealership, but that being said, last I checked the vast majority of S class drivers lease, and the converse is true with A8 owners, so that may be why. I'm no expert and can't tell you why car brands do what they do, but it is what it is.

I showed a friend the picture and he joked "Why don't they just put a big 45" Samsung TV in there". He too has had multiple S Classes.

Love or hate the iPad design - the rest of the dash is so plain and boring. There's no elegance here. I always thought that S Class was supposed to be the alternative to a Jaguar XJ back in the day - and then BMW 7, Audi A8 but more so - a Bentley or Rolls Royce before they went crazy high end.

You guys are all car buffs - probably since childhood like me. Remember the Bentley Mulsanne or Brooklands or Turbo R of the 90s?

The Rolls Royce Silver Spirit of the 90s?

Back in the day the W140 was such a perfect competitor to that - both inside and out. The level of wood trim - the proper amounts of chrome - the sheetmetal looked and felt like a tank.

Then corporations bought up those 2 british brands - and now Entry level prices are double the price of an S Class - but yet S Class managed to steal a lot of their customers with their high end S600. The interior was lavish - sumptuous - luxurious - cozy - and classy. It was the AP Watch - or the Patek.

Now - its an Apple Watch - as the british marks stay on course building the AP and Patek cars going forward. Did you all get a look at the new Flying Spur? This is where S Class should be on a sophistication level - not a Tesla. Just my humble opinion. VERY disappointed.

You are right the flying spur is gorgeous luxury. Really is pretty perfect looking inside and out.

I think the W222 S-class is the most beautiful sedan on sale today in my opinion.

Of course, it is all personal preference, but I’ve never been able to get past the black glass roof being standard on the W222. Since I prefer lighter color cars, the black roof appears very obtrusive to me. The Panorama Roof should have remained an option on the S Class, as it was on the W221 and as it is on most other MB models and on most all other brands.

Having a black, glass roof became sort of a status symbol in the early 2000’s. Tons of crazies had the roofs of their econo-boxes wrapped in black—or spray canned black—so they could look cool. But I feel that the trend should be over with by now and I would just LOVE it if MB went back to making the glass roofs optional on the new S Class models. True luxury is having things the way YOU want them, not the way others decide how you SHOULD want them. In that respect, I find one’s ability to order a new E Class with or without the Panorama Roof, INFINITELY more luxurious than the “one size fits all” approach of the current S Class. I would actually prefer three options: A solid steel roof, a moon-roof or a Panorama Roof.

I know it is unrelated - but since I brought up Bentley....It would appear they're on a roll with their styling. Good god - they are on a roll. New Bentley GT V8 just released. Makes the S Coupe look completely dated.

Before I ordered my 2019 SL450, I drove a Continental V8 convertible. I found the car to drive with a feeling VERY heavy and ponderous. I did not enjoy the experience. I hope these new Bentley models will be a bit lighter on their feet.

Beautiful car. I don't agree however that there is anything dated about the S Coupe. It's a magnificent vehicle that may just stand the test of time. Either way, we won't have to worry as it will cease production in the next generation. Will go extinct.

This is rapidly becoming a Bentley thread and understandably so.

Bentley's are fine for you millionaires and should be better than Mercedes at that price point, but not everyone who owns a Mercedes S are not necessarily that well off to make that jump.

I think the new Bentley's (Continental/Spur) are very attractive by streamlining the same design/theme. Kind of reminds me of the Bugatti Veyron and Chiron. Now the old designs look dated and a bit clumsy compared to the fresh and great looking replacements. They chose a very low risk design update.

That said, I don't think Bentley is on a roll, rather they are coming out of the automotive stone age (aka 2004). The companies biggest issue is that they are loosing obscene amounts of money on each car sold; the Bentayga is the biggest contributor. There is literally no problem getting $90k off a brand-new V12 model. Average net loss per car worldwide is at least $25k. Compared to the industry leader Ferrari which makes an average of $80k per car.

Bentley will likely making good sales on the new model with their existing customer base upgrading but eventually will have to make deals to get cars into customer hands. I am thinking something very similar to what they have done before and as Aston Martin is doing now.

That Bentley looks great, but WILL also look outdated in the near future. With all the cars going ELECTRIC.......things are going to get spiced up a bit IMO. I'm holding out for a few more years to see what I like 'brand new'. It's very exciting tio see these cars coming out. Anyone recall back in the 80's when lots of people thought we'd be airborne by now?

Thanks for that useful bit of info, my wife wants an SUV and so we may actually consider a Bentayga, but hybrid.

Absolutely looks out of place. The screen is not integrated. I refuse to believe that MB will release a car designed in this fashion. Has to be fake.

If the W223 does have the tablet controller, they should have went with hidden AC vents like the tesla.

Those AC vents look out of place.

You can get a $170k vantage for no money down at $1599 a month - with 10k miles per year - and Aston covers first 3 monthly payments. And this is the STATED advertisement - before you go in to haggle... CRAZY. What the hell happened to Aston Martin?

I have a terrible gut feeling - this is 95% accurate.

I have never cared for contemporary Aston Martin Cars. They have never been really comfortable GT cars, nor have they had the chomps to compete with Ferrari when it came to power and speed. They have just sort of been “there,” in some sort of never-never land, trying to compete with brands that did everything better and many times for far less money, can you say “Porsche?” Perhaps the brand will morph like Maserati did, so they can offer lackluster, “exotic wannabe models” for MB prices, but without the engineering or refinement, to those who seek name recognition and status symbols, without quite paying Ferrari fare. To me, Aston Martin and Maserati are brands that trade on decades old fame, while delivering mediocre performance at Bentley prices. And then, there is the Mercedes-Benz SL: How do I love thee? Let me count the ways!

I hope we are all wrong but I agree, I have that feeling too. Simply based on the direction of all their other offerings.

Aston Martin has been pushing hard to sell more cars. Assume that was due to their IPO. But the Vantage is worth looking at IMO for a couple of reasons. Previously Aston Martins were not particularly quick, had ancient tech and weren't very reliable. Then they made a deal with Mercedes to get electronics and some switch gear into their cars. With the Vantage they also brought the 4.0 liter AMG V8 engine in. Same engine as the AMG 63 models. Different tune and mated to an 8 speed ZF tranny.

People can argue about their latest design but the car is compelling. Beautiful interiors, great sound and now Mercedes tech at a bargain price. Made us think about it...
The deals are interesting with high residuals and a low MF; given their high depreciation AM will take a bath on these cars at lease end. But an AMG GT63s with roughly the same MSRP will cost you more than twice as much per month...

Of course unconfirmed and total speculation but I wouldn't be surprised. Lackluster for sure if true. Rear lights look like VW Passat's. Front looks Japanese, deviates from MB heritage.
