S600 - 20" Rims - Michelin A/S3+ or Conti DWS?

I am trying to get the absolute best ride in the S600. Which would be quieter and softer on ride. I don't care about life span as much. I am leaning towards the Michelin, however they are Pilot Sport A/S 3+, and I don't necessarily care about having a "sporty" tire. Are the Continentals the way to go?

I had intended to switch over to 19" rims and Michelins for the best ride. So this week while getting ready for a road trip I had a bad 20" rear tire. Arrgg. I didn't have time to source the rims, TPMS, and mount new tires. So I reluctantly put 4 Michelin PSS AS3+ on the 20" rims, in the essence of time and safety. WOW what a difference from the GY runcraps! They are smooth, compliant, and pretty quiet. I am very happy. I can imagine 19" would be a little better, but this was a huge improvement. A whole different ride. I have Michelin 4S on another car and they are even better but this is my daily and the AS3's had a 500 tread wear rating. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them.

I ordered from Tirerack had them at my door in 1 and 1/2 days, installed that second day. They ship from Ga to Fla. Michelin has a 70 dollar rebate with a purchase of 4.

Absolutely! They always pro rate my tires because these heavy Benzes eat tires faster! Been using them 10 years for mine and my wife's cars.

Well I know what I'm getting for my S-Class now! Thank you for the mini-review!

I doubt 18" wheels will fit over the calipers on an S600.

Even with custom offsets? And plus one for the PS4

Two members have posted that the 18" stock rim will not even fit over the S550 w/ a sport package. Why? I couldn't tell you because it's an appearance package for the most part. But that one member stated he had to put 19" as the minimum that could be used. The S63 and S600 have bigger brakes. I have on my Zo6 had custom rims made for that reason. The car comes with very large carbon ceramic front rotors. A 19" was as small as you could go before it would contact the caliper. I track the car and the front rotors are 2700 dollars! So switching to steel rotors was a very cost effective for tracking. The problem is tires in the 19" size. BIG selection and much cheaper for 18" rims. I had custom rims made with bigger barrels that clear the rotors in an 18" rim size. After several sets of tires and rotors it paid for itself easily. But the rims were very expensive and most would not want to do this. I had forged CCW rims made and it took 2 months till they were done. But to answer your question, I will bet it could be done with an enlarged barrel. It is a real hell of a time mounting tires due to this. If it's just the spoke hitting, yes a custom offset would work, but if it's the barrel hitting the caliper that may or may not be solved with a custom blown out barrel on the rim.

I think I may be wrong on the S600 having bigger brakes, maybe someone can confirm? The s600 has 19" rims and the brakes look similar to the S550?? maybe 18" can fit?

Put the A/S3+ on my car. Rides great, and got a fresh alignment... I did splurge and buy the Discount Tire certificates as well. Thanks for the help guys!
