Red Battery Icon See Owners Manual

Ok, my car (2015 S550) had this this message pop up a little over a month ago. I brought it to the dealership since it's still under warranty, and they replaced the alternator. Well a month later, the same message pops up, so back to the dealership it went. Again they replaced the alternator, but the very next day I get the same message! My vehicle has been at the dealership almost 2 weeks now, and they are still troubleshooting. They replaced the battery but that was not the fix. They are still troubleshooting and believe they have narrowed it down to a battery sensor (I think). Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, what was the fix? I have no doubt that the dealership will figure it out, but they've had me car now for almost 2 weeks and I'm starting to get frustrated.

Update: The dealership replaced the computer, but that red battery icon returned the very next day! This happened last week 24 July; I drove to a safe place and shut the car off immediately. Tried to restart the vehicle, but would not start. All dash lights came on, but would not crank at all. Had it towed back to the dealership and here I am today with no answers. We're going on 4 weeks in the shop, and I'm starting to lose my patience. Am I the only one with this "red battery see owner's manual" warning? Does anyone have any ideas?

The good news is that it wouldn't start. At this point it'll be pretty easy for them to find why. Also I expect they'll open a ticket with their own tech support people at this time. Keep the patience, sometimes these are hard to track down.

Well I did get an update today, and my car may be ready tomorrow! I'll wait to get the full write-up before I go into detail, but long story short, they found a loose ground somewhere by the transmission which had been shorting out and arching! Several months back, I had a turbo go bad, and the repair required the transmission to be removed......I wonder if that was the catalyst of the loose ground? I sure hope this is the root/fix of all my issues.....

Talking Find a Mechanic

In a tangentially related way, my GL450 TPMS light came on. Went to the dealer 3 times, had all the transmitters replaced as well as the Bosch TPMS computer, and no change. Finally left the vehicle and said I would pay for parts, but not labor or shop costs until fixed. 3 days later it was fixed - a loose (they say corroded) ground wire somewhere under the vehicle where the dealer had previously done other work. Total parts cost to repair at dealer rates: USD 50. This is not the first time a “technician” followed the computer and not common sense in resolving a problem. Years ago I was a mechanic (not a tech) and find that there are now times that the service personnel need a lesson on how cars actually work. When problems don’t have a resolution on the computer I look for a real mechanic.
