Goodyear Eagle Run flats

Test drove an '18 today with these tires on it. Car has just 7100 miles on it. I found them quite noisy, particularly when rolling to a stop. Anyone with any experience with these?

Thanks, that's what I thought. Don't think they're the originals as too much tread left plus i don't think MB puts on Goodyear tires in Germany.

Anything that isn’t runflats, lol. Michelin, Pirelli, Continental are all good. I find the Pirelli all season plus to offer great pricing and performance.

I have the Goodyear run flats. They suck. No traction, lots of noise, and worst of all they crack your wheels. Not too good in the rain either.

I must a have a freak set because I still have the originals and with approx 28k we have had no issues. Mostly highway use and the still have plenty of life left. Never had a bent wheel or so called blow outs. I check pressure regularly and car is garaged otherwise thats it.

I get they are louder to some degree and do thump on abrupt impacts but otherwise I just don't hear or have the issues others do. They are now 4 years old and I am contemplating upgrading the rims or selling the car.

I agree. I have them on my S550c4. While they are a bit noisy on some pavement types and are harsh on bumps like road seams or holes, I don't find them bad enough to be objectionable. And the stiffer sidewalls at the proper inflation pressures provide good handling with quicker turn in for a heavy highway cruiser like the S550.

OK, As I sit here waiting for tires to be installed........

Last night on the highway doing about 75 heard a quick pop and the warning tire screen popped up. I watched tire pressure go to zero faster than I could get off exit. I will say I have never had a run flat tire go flat? So I am not sure if what occurred is normal or an issue??

I am going to try and get a picture up where you can see the inside section of the sidewall pulled off the tread portion of the tire. The belts are hanging out. I am a bit pissed because under 500 miles ago it was just at dealer for brakes and it looks fairly obvious that the inside of the tires were well worn. Funny thing if I show you pics of portion of tire you can see they still look usable and not on the wear indicators yet. The car obviously needed an alignment as you can see the insides worn. The dealer should have advised and i believe in CA they have to check tires.

Is it normal when a run flat goes that it delaminates like that? Do they destruct in order to be able to drive? I was able to drive approx 5 miles to a safe location to wait for a tow. As I was waiting I couldn't help but wonder how my $100k car didnt have a simple spare so I could be on my way.

Buying Michelin non run flats and Ill report back on ride quality difference!!!

What can I say? I’m a tire SNOB! For over a decade now, I have put Bridgestone Serenity Plus tires on my daily drivers. I had the dealer install them on my 2018 S560 when I got it and even though these are thought of as “80,000 mile” tires, I have just replaced them at 20,000 miles. Why? Simply because I prefer using the first half of a tire’s life, as opposed to the second half. In addition, tires are so crucial to one’s safety, that I feel a new set of tires every 18,000 to 20,000 miles is very cheap insurance.

I do have news though: The Serenity Plus is DEAD! Long live the QuietTrack, which is the new Bridgestone replacement for the Serenity Plus line. AND, believe it or not, I decided to give Costco a shot this time around and I must tell you that I was very impressed. Not only was their price about $300.00 LESS that their competition, they fill the tires with nitrogen, spin balance them and torque the lug bolts TWICE, as a safety precaution. The shop was spotless, with all modern equipment, the guys there were very friendly and they had poly bags for my used tires, which I took with me. The only downside was that it took about 1.75 hours, but I’m retired, so what do I care?

For the four 245/50 R18 tires, out the door, the price was $966.78. The old tires, which still look near new, will easily bring $200.00 on Craigslist. Now back to our regularly scheduled broadcast about 20” wheels, run flat tires and potholes, which is currently in progress.

Ok quick drive home and YES it is a different car. So I will admit I guess I was just used to it coming from my BMW 750 and thought the ride was good. I love the look of the 20's otherwise I would say the 18's would make it almost perfect.

So to everyone with run flats YES there is a big difference in ride without them. I installed Michelins MS 3'S ? or something like that.

How are the Quiettrack tires versus the Serenity Plus from purely a noise perspective?

They appear to be just as quiet, which is to say virtually silent.

I have the GY summer run flats on my 15 S, with now 10k miles (bought car in April with 6,200 miles). I have no issues with the run flats. My issue is with the summer tires. I have the AMG 20" wheels so 245/40s on the front and 275/35s on the back. After researching, there are no all season run flats for 20" wheels, and I'm not going to get a separate set of winter tires as I have an MDX for bad weather. I have decided to go with the Continental DWS 06 tires.

After driving the car now for a couple hundred miles I cant believe the difference in ride. The car is just so much more silent and the same bumps are almost non existent. Even my wife who doesn't notice anything made note of how quiet the car feels.

As far as blowing out run flats the answer is YES you can. If I can get pic up you will see the entire sidewall is missing and the belts visible.

The runlets were just about useless as I had to call AAA anyway as who is going to risk ruining a $800 wheel for a $200 tow.

Just installed the GY Eagle Run flats on a 20" rim and they are superior to the Continentals. Very quiet and much better ride. They are very expensive however. Also peace of mind if wife gets a flat.

I also have the Goodyear Eagle run flats on 20" wheels on my '16 S550 Coupe. They are a bit noisy on some surfaces but on more modern pavement they are fine. Bumps are mostly handled OK by the suspension. I notice a bit better handling with the stiffer sidewalls that I would have liked on my race cars back in the day.

I was apprehensive about a car with no spare tire but then I thought back that I hadn't had to use the spare in my last six or so cars over 30 years. I've had several slow leaks from nails and screws in the treads but nothing that didn't allow me to get to a tire shop. So I hope I can keep that string going with the run flats.

I'm a little more aggressive so I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires on mine. The Michelins are probably the best available high performance all-seasons currently available and will give you confidence if you decide to take a very aggressive corner on wet pavement. And they are available from Costco at a great value price with the discounts available every other month. Tires are sooo important to safety, and thus, I choose the highest performance tires available that will still be safe if the temperature drops near freezing. Better braking, better handling. It's like extra insurance. The Pilot Sport AS 3+ is a HUGE improvement over the factory run-flats. No more tram-lining on highway grooves and quieter and more compliant ride. Any reasonable non-run flat will perform better than a run-flat. If you've had blow-outs on run-flats, I have to ask HOW BIG ARE YOUR RIMS? In this age of super-sized wheels, I always opt for the smallest size possible for ride comfort. Like Streamliner, I carry a compact spare kit from the W221 in my trunk.

I'm having a tough time imagining blow-outs. The only tire issues I've had in the past two decades are slow leaks from nails and screws. I guess California roads are not pothole ridden.

I suggest running Michelin Pilot AS3+

They are quiet and comfortable. Really worth every single dollar!
