Ordered a new 2019 S560
My 60th year and after 5 years of saving I ordered my dream car. I had a 2010 S350 which I loved and owned it until it did just over a 100k kms. Then sold it to a friend who still enjoys it.
I ordered an S560 on the 29th June 2019.
Build date (but not confirmed on the contract !) by sales is 21st Aug.
Its the 28th Aug today and if the build did start it should be nearing completion.
No updates from sales and when I text or call I get a very bland "I checked the system but no real news yet. Will check in a few days and let you know"
Not good enough but I don't want to bug or jinx the (so far lack lustre buying experience) - In Aus this is a RRP $338k car. I got a big discount on the last day of the end of financial year here.
S560 Obsidian Black.
Porcelain / Black interior. Black Poplar Gloss wood trim.
Exclusive pack - Nappa Leather, Dinamica Roof lining, Electric reclining heated and cooled rear seats, rear sunblind including rear doors.
Burmester 3D high end system.
Run Flat Pressure Monitoring.
Standard 5 x 3spoke 20" alloys.
The rest is standard.
Tentative delivery date end october 2019, which means it must ship by 1st week September (in a few days).
How can I get better information without pissing off sales ?
I guess they don't want to take the risk of providing anything in writing in case the purchaser is then disappointed, especially since we have such excitement building in a significant purchase of our dream cars with very high expectation of Mercedes Benz as a company and its buying experiences.
Am I right ?
Should I call him in a week to find out if the original build date of the 21st August actually happened ?
They moved it to the VPC and it remains there until released for sale.
I am impatiently awaiting my new car!

The Salesman told me they had no new national ones in my spec available (on the 29thJune) but they di have one build slot for the 21st Aug Production.
There are not many of these new ones available in Australia. Very few sold. I checked all the usual dealerships and independents.
Only about 4 demo models 2018 and 1 2017 available on sale nationally across all of Australia.
They were pretty happy to get my business on the last day of the financial year and for a big model.
I traded in a 6 month Full Range Rover Autobiography which they made good money on.
I in return got a good discount on the new one.
I get that if its delayed to November or december I may get a new 2018 model but suffer a years' depreciation for just 6 to 4 weeks left in 2019. That not good.
Thoughts and counsel welcome.
Thanks

That could be because your dealer had no more 2019 allocation and build slots ?

For example the Financial year in Australia is July 1 2019 to 30th June 2020. Whereas the financial year in the USA is in fact the Calendar year ? So while the end of year in the USA is 31st Dec 2019, in Australia there is still 6 months to go for the end of that working / corporate year. So a car delivered in Jan, Feb March 2020 is still the 2019 Financial year in Aus but the build date and compliance date are accurately recorded. So example: Build Date November 2019. Compliance Date say 15The Jan i.e.e a compliance 2020 model.
Complicated huh ? and yes, confusing too ?

...and on top of it, you also drive on the wrong side of the road, like the stubborn Brits....

(I have a a lot of relatives in Katoomba and Brisbane and always give them grief about it, hence "Ratbag", my new nickname among them ).

From my post in July,
"The price of the premium package was $5K in 2019, but now only $3750 as some of the items from the previous premium package are now included.
That savings was offset by an increase in the base price of $3100.
My car will be $1850 more than a 2020
There are huge incentives on the 2019s right now, through MB Fleet sales, USAA, and other organizations that participate.
We fell in love with the Black/Porcelain interior, ordered over Selenite Gray, otherwise we'd get a leftover 2019"

My wife phone the dealership today as she genuinely wanted a ball park estimate on delivery so we can plan a vacation in October around the car delivery date.
They confirmed my car has now been built. It is currently in the "marshalling yard" in Sindelfingen awaiting delivery to the shipping port. After that its 8 weeks delivery to me - so early to mid Nov 2019....
Next week I may get tracking details including vessels etc...

Today I got my VIN Number.
I rushed home to see if I can do some (curiosity killed the cat ?) digging to confirm if my build spec is reflected by getting a VIN Decoder report. After 2 hours of futile searching online it turns out there isn't a VIN Decoder in Australia or for Australian Models. So, if some kind soul could help me get a decoded report of my build / spec I would be very grateful.
Here is my VIN
WDD2220832A516145
Thank you ....

Thank you so much once again.
Much appreciated.
Now I shall contact the dealership to check shipping status and tracking. Apparently the old method of using your VIN to track the vessel by entering the VIN in the CARGO ID field has been taken off the Wallenius Online Tools tracking capability. This is due to "Customer Privacy Compliance". The customer is this case not being me but the Australian Dealer - a customer of Wallenius W shipping.
