Can't really tell 100% from that picture, but it looks to be the "grocery" cargo tray that is installed inside on the top part of the trunk. It slides out like a tray and there is a contracting "cargo net/bag" that extends down when you push it down. But I can be wrong LOL.

"Comfort Box" in action on an E-Class. The S appears slightly wider and with different mounting points than the E:

2015 MB S550 & 2020 MB GLS 450
Looks like comfort box to me as well. If it is, it is easy to install and remove with no tools. And it is somewhat helpful with groceries.
