S560
Back in the fold- Just landed a new S560

After a few MB's in a row (2015 S550, 2013 SL63 and a 2014 GL350) I was looking for something new so I switched to a 7 series with a different powertrain (2017 740e). After 2 years of driving a good car, but certainly not great, I was getting a little tired. Then a few weeks ago my wife and I were going out for our usual Thursday night date night (having a built in babysitter is heavenly!). As we got in my 7 and started out of the garage, out of the blue, my usually conservative, pragmatic wife said you really need an S class again. I almost hit one of our light piers staring at her in surprise! We talked it over dinner (we love heading to our fav restaurants and eat at the bar- we have made many new friends that way and meet all sorts of interesting people). Let's just say I didn't need any pressure applied, I had been feeling the same way.

So the next morning I sent a text to my old salesman and he had a 2019 S560 4matic in stock, white with silk and exactly the options I wanted. Perfect. With my USAA the total discount was a smidge under $21k off sticker ($115k). I couldn't resist. He's at MB of Manhattan which is a good 1.5hr drive so instead of heading in he drove the car home from work 2 days later with the paperwork in hand (he lives nearby). I think my wife has a picture of my dog staring out one window looking for squirrels, mailmen, runners or any other deadly threats and me looking for my car. When it arrived I think we both barked.

I have to say it's great to be back. The seats are a dream, BMW's seats are church pews by comparison. The isolation and drive are sublime. It really is a much better car than the 2015 S550 and in another league from the 7 series. I actually liked the electric aspect of my 7, it had a very luxurious dead silent feel, but the rest of the car was just not luxurious. It's hard to find where MB didn't focus on luxury and pampering. I'm looking forward to packing on some miles and writing a few comparisons. I will say I find the S560 is far more comfort focused than the 2015 S550 when it comes to the powertrain. In normal driving I have always left it in comfort and I find I am often rolling deeper and deeper into the pedal than I should. Maybe I'm more used to the instant torque of my 7- I'd have to drive a 550 back to back with my car to see the difference. In sport it's much faster but certainly less performance oriented than my old S. It doesn't really bother me, just an observation. I'm loving the new command system but iDrive is still a step ahead with the interface. One minor issue I'm having is I can't change the radio station for the for 1 minute or so after getting in the car. I scroll to a different one and it bounces back to the last station. After 60-75 seconds all is normal. Not a biggie- it's something I'll probably mention when it goes in for it's first service. The headlights and distronic are much better than before and it's a pleasure to have garage door openers than work (BMW can't figure this out to save their life). I'm still learning a few tips and tricks but all of a sudden I'm volunteering for all of the errand drives (wifey likes this).

I'm happy to be back in the fold. You really get to appreciate a gentleman's thoroughbred when you have been playing with a finicky stallion.

Congrats! Looks great. Also, people with "rituals" such as date night once a week are statistically happier in marriage. Best of luck.

Congrats, that incentive is awesome, 21K off sticker! Was the sticker 115K? or was that the purchase price?

Both cars are beautiful. You wrote a super interesting review of all the cars you've driven, rarely do people do it so well. Compared to my 2008 S63 and my 2012 S63 the 2018 is so much nicer in many ways though the 2012 was much easier to use in terms of controls. In any case, congrats on that beauty and some interior pics of the front and back seat area would be great to see. The next time I get a girlfriend again, I'll try your "eat at the bar" thing since it does sound quite appealing, the communal experience.

Sticker was roughly $114,900, total discount was just under $21k but keep in mind this is late in the season so they wanted to move the car.

Thanks, I'll work on the interior shots. And definitely go for the bar dinner- We almost never eat at a table anymore (just special occasions or if we are going out with friends). We have made so may friends this way who we now meet up with regularly. It's at the point where we may see 5-6 couples and a few singles in a given night.
