Why didn't you get the extended warranty on the 2013 if you were going to keep it for a little while? Probably easier to sell private party with a warranty you can transfer. There's the extended warranty subforum where dealers from across the country discount the warranty. You can go up to 7 years/100k. That would have covered any issue with the front end making noise. You would have had to buy it before the warranty expired though. My guess is CV joint or wheel bearing. As for the new model, you do realize that if you had a 2014 vs a 2013, the newer 2014 model is worth way more than a 2013. I'm hoping the price finally drops once the new models come out.

I don't know, sometimes it just feels like the right time for a new car. I don't mind so much about the 2014 being worth more. I wasn't in love with it like I was the 2013.

Lol. Yep, it was a lengthy process. Only caveat is that there was some paint warping when service took the spoiler off, but I’m going on vacation soon and I’ll be dropping the car off to get the paint touched up and some minor chips and scratches repaired ( the latter incurred in transit from NC, we assume). All free of charge of course. Surprised they messed up the spoiler! Thought it was a simple DIY job done with fishing wire and goo gone. Haha. Guess they didn’t get the memo. (See attached)

yea... u know Id put the spoiler back on! when the spoiler is put on when the paint is still fresh it could react w the chemicals in the glue(which u can see it did).

Yeah, it’s too bad MB service didn’t know that! Well, they’ll figure it out.

Happy to see a conclusion to your efforts and hope that you are happy with the car and the deal you got.

At minimum I believe you received enough information for the best possible outcome. Enjoy!

Thanks, Wolfman. The information I learned here was integral to the deal. Everything happens for a reason, and this process was as absurd as it was because it was my time to learn the ins and outs of a car lease. Trunk money, fleet discount, etc.; these are all things I’ll know forever and apply in all future car lease negotiations for my wife, my son and myself.

Furthermore, I believe the ruby black was simply not to be. One drove by me on the first day I had the new car and as beautiful as it was, it just didn’t give me the same feeling anymore. The inkiness and gloss of this all black is something to behold, and the all black interior is just like my outgoing S550, only more luxurious with the upgraded materials, design and the black headliner (I used to have gray headliner). All black leather is my favorite anyway.

I’ve attached some interior pics just for fun.

Functionally, the car seems superior to the 2013 in almost every way. The only gripes thus far:

-I miss the smooth door opening of the W221 very much. I hate how these doors open on stops/positions like any other car out there. Granted, it’s a thicker and more substantial feeling than most cars, but I just love how the old doors would stop wherever they landed. But I knew this going in, and I’d made my peace with it long ago.

-The climate control is rather confusing. The W221 had a max cool and and off button. I still have to fiddle around with this a bit more, but so far I don’t see anything like that here. In the volatile NY fall weather we often need maximum coolness and heat in the same day.. sometimes in the same afternoon! It boggles my mind that there is are climate control presets on these cars. Seems like such a good idea to me!

-I have not yet found a favorites button. My old car had a button to which you could assign any given function. In my case it was maximum massage for both front seats so at the click of a button both my wife and I could enjoy a massage. (And a side note regarding massage specifically: it takes a good 10 seconds to get both massages on the two front seats.. might not sound like a lot but it’s still annoying)

-Menu operation is much more involved than the W221, naturally, but a lot less fluid in operation. I could be wrong, but I’m fairly certain that literally every computer driven feature was controllable by the console wheel in the old model. In other words, if it was on the screen the wheel controlled it. But now it appears that different buttons control different on screen choices. Again, I may be wrong. Perhaps it’s all controllable, just not as logically. Further investigation required.

If anyone has any insight or corrections on these items please chime in. Other than those things everything is a dream come true. What a car!! I resisted upgrading for such a long time — I am one of the biggest W221 fans in the world, I would bet! — but I can confidently say that this is a worthy successor. And visually (body wise) they seem to have worked out the kinks and rough spots by this late period in the W222 generation. For example, the triple eyebrow and upgraded grille absolutely MAKE the front end. Etc.

No more MB:(
At long last and after an arduous journey, congratulations! It's a beautiful car, enjoy it. Loving those wheels. What more would you want? The perfect car.

Congratulations. Glad everything worked out for you. Here's something I found that might help you with the new steering wheel favorites button: https://www.mercedesbenzofcatonsvill...rites-menu.htm

Thank you!! This is very helpful. I remember adding a couple of addresses to this area when the MB rep was teaching me the new car features. It was a 45-minute lesson, so some escapes me still!! The guy said it was the most fully loaded S class he’d ever seen... considering this dealership has like 1-3 at a time I’m not so sure that’s very impressive... but in fairness it really does have a lot of options. Aside from the upgraded leather I struggle to think of any option it doesn’t have. But there must be some.

A fully loaded S560 costs nearly $160k without custom colors. Most nicely equipped S560's run I have seen in showrooms are near $130k. Beyond that, dealers won't risk a stock car build unless it was a cancelled customer order or MB forced a particular car allocation (typically high-end AMG's). Those end up to be deeply discounted to get rid of them.
This is also a trick to get a great build for cheap when looking for a new car on cars.com, car guru, etc. Find the most expensive build and offer a deep discount. Dealers are typically desperate to move these cars, especially at month end.

That’s a great trick. Makes sense. Also, I can only imagine how fully loaded an S class can come. $160k ?!? Wow. I’ve never been an online build kind of guy, so those extra features don’t really jump out at me, but I’ve seen S560s online for $140k, but that’s the highest. Crazy.
