You guys have much too sensitive butts, IMO.
I have Pirelli Sottozero RF on ultra light Vossen wheels for Winter driving and the ride is fine, thank you very much.
Lots of horrible potholes around Chicago and stiffer sidewalls protect the rims from damage and even when the tire gets damaged, you can still continue driving and get home or dealer without any issues.

My goal is the most comfortable ride - but my "moderate youth and stupidity" tells me that looks matter.
I imagine its going to be a last minute flip of a coin decision.
Don’t wait until the last minute. Don’t toss the coin. I KNOW that looks matter to you, so HOW can you even consider a new 7??? Just never approach it from the front?

You are probably right. Living out here in our “bubble” of the South Orange County Gold Coast, where we rarely see rough roads, let alone pot holes, our back sides do become hyper sensitive to even the slightest road imperfections. I feel for you folks back in snow country. Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you!
Btw, I'm jealous of your weather, environment, roads, etc (not politics, we have similar BS here in Illinois or even worse).
We (myself and wife) travel to LA at least once a month for a weekend, we have more friends there then at home, our dentist , wife's hair stylist, etc.
It feels like a quick and short break, a great respite from the doom and gloom, Black and White, mostly Grey, the buildings, the naked trees and even the sky all around you here in Chicago.
Would love to move out but my business is married to this place and can not be relocated.

Got a nail in my RF tire on the right rear. Had to keep adding 5 pounds about every 4 days. Found the nail. Called the shops and no one will touch it as far as patching or plugging it up. Took the tire off and reamed a hole in where the nail was, plugged it and it is doing great. I simply refuse to buy a whole new tire just because of a simple nail leak. I also refuse to use the fix-a-flat stuff they provide as it gums the inside so bad you have to pay for a new sensor and the labor to get that mess off of your wheel is intense. It irritates me there is no jack or tools to do a roadside repair. ( I now have them in the trunk bottom) I was able to drive home and do it all at my house at least. I will replace these with non-RFlats when they need replacing. At 9000 miles they look brand new. End of story, end of rant. Have a good day.

I swapped my RF's out for regular Bridgestone Serenity Plus tires at 20,000 miles. The RF's were really not worn out, probably could have gone another 10K miles, but I wanted to see the difference in ride/sound. Yes, marginally improved sound and ride, but not as much as I was expecting. The RF's are excellent.

I keep a spare in the trunk now. I feel better having a spare tire on board, rather than relying on RF's.

I thought that the primary difference with RFs was the stiffer sidewalls (I have them on my '16 S550 C).
So why will the repair shops refuse to do a simple repair through the tread area?
I will most likely replace the RFs with "regular" tires soon even without a spare.

I thought I had heard there was actually a law against it, at least here in CA, but I’m not sure.

The current run flats are much better riding than those made as recently as 3 to 5 years ago. The ones that came on my 2015 S550 were just horrible, while the ones that came on my 2018 S560 were much better. That said, my swap first to Bridgestone Serenity Plus tire’s was a big improvement in noise & ride quality, and my later swap to the new Bridgestone QuietTrack tires was even more of an improvement. For me, these tires on my 18” wheels and MBC is the only way to fly.

I am also fed up with the Run Flats. I have already changed the rears to the Pirelli P Zero non run flat counterpart. I will switch the fronts over when they are ready to go.

I hadn't thought about that possibility but it doesn't surprise me if true. We seem to have laws about so many things these days. Our bureaucratic elites know best how we should live our lives I guess...

I don't know why they won't repair a RF. Makes no sense. I've plugged RF tires at least 5 times over the past few years with no consequences.

I went with Uniroyal Tiger Paws on my 2017 S550 and could not be more happy. Put 8K miles on them since I got the car last november and got rid of the Stock Pirellis that came with the car which were trashed after 16K miles. They seem to wearing fine and ride perfect and look very nice too. A bargain at 130 dollars per tire in the 20 inch size as my car is the Amg line. Handle very nice too. Will definitely keep using these tires unless there is a negative surprise in the next 20K miles.

For that price, that is awesome. Where did you buy them? Any particular store chain?

Yes I had a 2016 and had over 10 premature tire changes, many with sidewall bubbles. Riding 50 miles on the flat tire pretty much insured it will be replaced.
Had thetire and wheel warranty but resented having to insure myself against their design defects. I hope the situation has improved with my 2020 s 550. We will see.

Here's the site I bought mine from. https://www.tirebuyer.com/tires/unir...p/style/655253 They are the Tiger Paw gtz. Like I said could not be more happy with the tires and I'm a real nit picker. Looks like they have gone up a little bit since I bought mine last fall although I think I had a discount code too, they sometimes have discounts. Very happy with tire buyer. Walmart also sells these tires. I was nervous going with such a inexpensive tires when I bought them and was worried about noise or premature failure but so far, perfect. All the reviews seemed good too. I think my rear tire size is 275 35 20 and the fronts 245-40-20. The wear so far looks good, tires still look brand new although I've only been 8k miles but I do drive very hard, fast turns and fast acceleration. The tires are actually made by Michelin as Michelin bought out Uniroyal many years ago. They have a 460 wear rating so should hold up well, they are rated a 50K mile tire. According to the reviews they go well in snow and icy conditions but I've not tried them in those conditions yet and may never so those conditions. Rain, they seem to go ok, not great but I would not say bad. The Pirellis tires I took off this car were getting bubbles on the outer sidewalls, they are known for that. These tires should be very reliable. I don't even bother carrying a spare as I'd never be able to change a tire anyhow, if by some chance I do hit road debris and get a flat I'll just have the car flatbedded to a tire dealer.

Thanks very kindly, but now that I consider them, based on my prior experience, I will be unable to proceed since my vehicle is leased, and I will need to return it with the RFs. Sigh.

Yes that is indeed true, they will dock you for the tires when you turn it in if does not have RF's. I'd suggest you look at the Michelin Primacy Run Flat tires if they make them in your size. I put those on my E450 wagon and very happy with them. I had the Goodyear sports on the car initially and could not stand those tires, extremely stiff and rough ride with the Goodyears.
