PermaFinish

Good morning:

For the past 2 maintenance services, my service advisor has given me this flyer for PermaFinish. PermaFinish is a chemical paint bonding process to aid in protecting the car's finish. Has anyone utilized this service or something similar to it? Or, would a decent wax and ceramic coating be just as good?

If Mercedes cared about the exterior appearance, a hand-finished multi-sanding and coat process would be a purchase option so you could receive a gleaming solid colored car from the factory without orange skin texture. It is disappointing that this is not on option on some of the more exotic AMG offerings.

PermaFinish? How is this better than a coat of ceramic which I can apply for a sixty bucks of ceramic coat and several hours of my time prepping the paint?

That’s the question. I haven’t returned the sales guys call yet for pricing. I just really wanted to see if anyone else has used it before. The finish is supposed to be good for 6 years.

Dealers have been "selling" finishes like this for decades. I recall getting a pitch for something like this back in the '60s. I fell for it but found little to no difference from cars without it. It's really just a dealer profit item.
