Last year with CD changer?
I was looking at pre-owned today. Saw a 2014 S550 with cd changer. Not sure if it allowed import of songs to the Media Register. Was this the last year a cd changer was offered?

The 2015 and 2016 models come with CD/DVD driver too, not sure about 2017 but most likely yes.

I just took delivery of my 2020 S560. I had it built to my specifications and I chose to add a CD player. It sits in the glove box. Not ideal, but better than none. (I think its a single cd device though)

Yep 2017, thats the year of my car. I like it because the 6 disc CD Changer is also a DVD player and I can watch movies on it. From CDs you can record them onto the hard drive so you can have your whole collection on the 11 GB hard drive and not have to carry a bunch of CD's around. This was one of my decisions to get the 2017 over the 2018 plus the 25 grand I saved was a nice little incentive too. Plus the engine is a larger displacement 4.7 vs 4.0 thats a good 18 percent difference, like the saying goes, there is no replacement for displacement, lol.

2017 was the last year of the CD changer as mentioned. WRT displacement, the old "no replacement" line was quickly usurped by efficient turbo charging. Both engines have turbos, but the hot vee of the new 4.0l minimizes lag and increases power.

It probably does not make a real lot of difference. There must be more boost in the 2018 4.0 motor to get the extra power at least according to the ratings the 2018 vs 2017 has 14 more hp. With the smaller displacement it would take more boost too. Be interesting if someone knew the boost figures. I heard the main reason for the lower displacement was some euro law that they had to keep the displacement lower? My only concern would be that with the higher boost maybe less long term longevity?

There are precisely zero reasons to include a CD changer these days and thousand reasons to not include one. Years ago the last remaining reason might have been that a CD had a theoretical better quality, but since the S-class includes both FLAC and ALAC lossless formats, that reason is eliminated.

One reason they stopped doing them was one more thing to go wrong. In fact my jams every now and then it is now. Then sometimes works. Gotta leave the car off at the dealer sometime before next November to have this checked out as my Warrantee expires then.
