Nice Ride - Once you've had a look at the front diff fluid change would you report back? Want to know if they have made it servicable for the W222 unlike the W212 where you have to remove the right front drive axle to replenish the fluid.

So I took a minute and went into WIS to look up the front axel fluid change. I have never had much luck figuring out how to copy and paste WIS onto this forum if I did I would have posted what I was looking at here.

. I ended up using a general W222 4matic car since I dont have your VIN number. From what I saw the front axle does NOT have a fill hole and it said the gear oil is added from the hole where the axle is installed. This would suggest to me that the diff is a lifetime fill service item. I also did not see any front diff fluid service in the maintenance literature.
WITH THAT SAID IT DOES TAKE TIME TO SEARCH THROUGH WIS FOR STUFF And I only spent a few minutes looking. If it were my car I would have the VIN number and spent another half hour double checking in wis to see if there is a service for the front axle....................

The people here saying an AMG with carbon ceramic brakes is going to require a $9000 brake service are just wrong. It is a different braking system that does not require the rotors to be changed as often. In fact, the rotors with carbon ceramic brakes don't need to be changed for at least 100,000 miles. The pads are certainly expensive, but it is not $9000. That would be the cost when you replace the rotors.

The massive benefit of carbon ceramic brakes for luxury car owners is the complete absence of brake dust. With CC brakes you almost never need to clean the wheels, apart what you would normally do when you wash the car. I don't think a ton of people are actually taking their $175,000+ AMG on the track, so the lack of brake fade with CC brakes is only experienced by a handful of owners. It's the brake dust thing that will make you feel smart for buying them.

Too bad MB does not offer a standard silver or black brake caliper option with CC brakes. The gold color is cool, but not so much on a luxo-yacht.

Look my Maybach wheels are filled with brake dust every time I go to clean them and its a mess.

Now take my AMG GTC it has the carbon ceramic brakes and has absolutely ZERO dust. The brakes are amazing and I have taken both the Maybach and the gt out on the race track. If the carbon ceramics are available I would pay for them in a heartbeat.

Take note that often when the rotors need replaced people simply buy steel rotors to replace the ceramics for far less $.

Yep, my '16 S550 coupe I bought in Oct was a mess with brake dust after just a few hundred miles. Just looked at a MB dealer parts site but they show no ceramic pads for this car. I thought I saw where it was an option for the S550 but apparently just for AMG's. May have to go aftermarket becuz this is going to be a PITA. I guess I'd have to swap out the rotors too with non-steel type?

Jud your kind of mixing up two things. You CAN buy ceramic brake pads and use them with your car. You will probably experience less brake dust.

What we were talking about prior was the optional carbon ceramic brakes that have special rotors as well as ceramic pads. These are dust free. Attached are pictures of my GTC brakes.

Its all good. I do hear that ceramic pads do cut down on dust.

If you choose to go with OEM I can suggest doing a bit or research. How do I know these are OEM pads? Good question, I am not 100% sure however on the side of my front calipers is stamped AMG and then another stamp TRW. I dont know about you but if the caliper is made by TRW I am going to assume the TRW pads are the same as OEM.

Thanks again, Katie. Just checked my MB WIS and looks pretty simple to swap out the pads. (My '11 Lexus is another story to replace the pads.)

Yes the fronts are not a big deal. The rear you have to retract the emergency brake at the beginning of the job and then engage it at the end of the job. This is done with a scan tool OR through the steering wheel access to ASSYST using the access steps that at the moment I forget. Youtube has videos on how to access the menu to do the brake jobs.

Just looking at Advance and the TRW pads you located, unfortunately none for my '16 S550 coupe. If fact, they carry no ceramics at all for the car. Anyway you've got me on the right track. I'm sure they're out there. Probably AutohausAZ has something.

Thanks. I think Katie's finding likely provides the answer and that is that the axle shaft has to be pulled in order to replenish the fluid which implies that it is a lifetime set-up. I just had my front diff replaced with a used unit at 130K miles because the claim was it so noisy ( I never noticed it) they couldn't hear the transfer case noise (that I did hear) that I took it in for. They showed me the fluid that was drained from it and it was grey and had small bits of metal in it. In the back of my mind I wonder if every diff that was drained at 130K wouldn't show the same thing.
