Are you saying the car you are interested in doesn't have the basic warning system (Triangle in the side/wing mirrors)? I could see Active Assist/Distronic as an option, but really on a S Class?

It's not about technology. It's about $$$$. Making people pay extra for something that should be standard equipment and is standard equipment in a Honda or Hyundai. It's how Mercedes and Porsche make money. It's the price of a Mercedes over a lovely Genesis G90 which already comes fully loaded but doesn't quite match the driving comfort of an S class.
Ya, worth it to find a car that has it. My last S550 was a 2015 and did not have the Surround view camera option package which was only like a 900 dollar option, I did not think much of it when I bought the car as a used certified but wow that was not good without it as the car had no front camera and thats important when you pull near high parking curbs, I ended up going over one and catching when I backed up and partially tearing the front facia off. Guess what the bill was to fix it? $900.00. Live and learn, I'd never buy another car that had a low front end without a front parking camera. Same goes the blind spot, especially in a Cabrio where the rear visibility is bad. My New to me 2017 S550 has the Surround view as I think MB realized they screwed up with the older models and made it part of the premium package automatically. Apparently there were a lot of complaints.
