1995 S320 with 5k miles. WOW! Still looks absolutely beautiful. Would you pay $60k?
Unbelievable discovery! We bought the 1993 300SE (before they renamed it S320 in 1994+) new at Feldmann Imports, Bloomington MN for $59,000 + tax/title/fees, etc. The W140's came out in 1992, and were priced well above the current W126 S-Class cars. Because of this--and the fact that Lexus introduced the LS400 right around this time--they did not sell well in the beginning and M-B had to offer factory cash in order to move the cars. Ours was marked down from $72K, I believe. The W140 was a tank--in a good way, I mean. We had it 13 years, put 80K miles on and sold it in 2006 to a local buyer here in Colorado. We still see the car from time to time. But would I pay $60K for a pristine example today, sadly no.
At the time we were selling our 300SE in 2006, we were paying attention to the W240 Maybach--it was on our radar--but we did not have the means to afford the MSRP. Based on our experience with the W140, we always dreamed of owning a W240 one day, after plenty of depreciation, of course. In 2016, the dream came true and we bought our current W240 Maybach 57 for $60,000. It's still going strong today, 16 years after assembly in March 2004--originally delivered in December 2004--and with 77K miles on the ODO.
If you loved the W140 cars, I'd say you should spend your $60K today on a used W240...
Amazing! I doubt there is a lower mileage S320 or even a W140? $60,000? No not for the base S320. Maybe a last year model S600 with everything you can get and that is a big maybe. At most this is a $30,000 car. And that is a huge bargain considering how amazing these cars are. Safer then 99% of the cars on the road as it is built like a tank.

I always wondered what people could buy them for originally! Great story. I miss mine, they definitely are not building them like that anymore!

I agree, or maybe the late grand edition. I had the 320, and it was pretty slow, the car was just too heavy for that motor. The car is a TANK- I don't think anyone would disagree on that!
Yep, it's a amazing find, a sweet car but $8k-12k or so is the upper end on it. Unless there's a crazy car lover out there that will pay more, but not that much more. I saw some other cool S Class and SL cars at the Mercedes Museum last year in Stuttgart and fell in love with them but this car is not an S600. Such a cool thread... thanks for posting.
