GPS trackers in loaners?

My service advisor told me that all loaners have GPS trackers in them now. Anyone know what they use this tracking for?

I always assumed they had GPS tracking - expensive assets, which are very mobile and even good customers break rules. In the case of my dealer, loaners cannot be driven outside of NC and SC - so, I could see a geofence set up to alert the dealer when a loaner goes outside of the permitted boundary.

No more MB:(
They want to be able to find the car if something happens, furthermore probably make sure you don't take it cross country. Probably informs them if you break a certain perimeter.

Well, pretty much all modern Mercedes have GPS tracking from the factory as part of Mercedes Me. Using the Mercedes Me app the current position of the car can be pinpointed and one can also setup geo-fences and then alerts are being sent whenever the car drives in or out of the geo-fenced areas. I have one setup around the dealership where I service the car, so I get an alert whenever the car leaves the dealership. I believe there's also a hidden one specifically for law enforcement to track and help recover the car if stolen. So this shouldn't come as a surprise if the dealerships take advantage of a feature that's part of the car to keep an eye on their fleet.

At MBLN you sign an agreement about tracking when the free loaner is released. At the loaner car counter they have a large display that shows the location of all their loaners. It is amusing to watch for a few minutes and the number of loaners MBLN has is far more than I realized.

Most of them will have Mercedes ME connected. That will allow you to track your vehicle.
