S63 and S550 trunk differences?

I wanted to add a spare tire and the hardware associated with it as I've seen other members do the same. I bought a w221 19" amg spare tire, when I go to put it in the spare tire well it doesn't even come close to fitting. Does the S63 have a smaller spare tire well? I noticed that it either is or looks like carbon fiber spare tire well. Am I missing something?

'94 SL600,'05 SL600,'06 S65,'07 E63,'14 E63S,'09SL600 all sold, ‘15 S65,‘18 E63S,'17 SL65, '17S65Cab
The well in the AMG's is carbon fiber. All the pictures people have posted here show their added spare sitting on the trunk floor, not in the well. Also the cars in the pictures posted do not have the Executive plus 2 place rear seating or the Burmester 3D sound system so they have larger a larger main trunk above the floor.

It definitely shouldn't fit in a W222 from what I've seen. My trunk is beyond tiny on my 18 S63, I can barely put a spool of thread back there. I would pass on using a spare and just use prayer, a cell phone and count on good ole dumb luck instead. Just don't go across Death Valley in it on the hottest day of the year and you should be generally Ok.

Well that explains a lot then. I guess I'll just put the spare tire in the trunk when I go on long trips like the Crown victoria or a Caprice.

If I did that I'd have zero room to put any size piece of luggage in my trunk, it would have to be a soft piece of luggage that was very small. My trunk space is tiny.

I carry a W221 compact spare in my 2018 S560 sedan. It has to sit on TOP of the trunk floor, because the idiots at MB PURPOSELY made the well below the floor, too small to accommodate it. When you pull the floor panel up, you can see that there is almost enough room for the spare, but the design of the tray prohibits it. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence can see that if the brilliant engineers at MB had been tasked with allowing room for the spare down there, it would have happened. Hell, they could probably make room for a full size, matching spare if they really wanted to. This is yet another example of “BIG BROTHER” MB deciding what we poor peons should have, regardless of what we really want. I absolutely hate this about MB.

Also, I removed the “Comfort Box” shown at the top of the photo and can easily fit two carry-on size bags in the trunk, with space left over. As much as I hate having the spare sitting there, it really hasn’t inconvenienced me much at all.
