Chrome Window trim look like water spots.

Hi again
what am I dealing with here? Tried a light compound didn’t seem to do much. Looks like water spots but not sure. 2016 CPO with 16k miles

I’m not sure this will be much help. My 2015 S550 had the same issue but within the factory warranty. My local dealer replaced all trim under warranty. They completed the job within one day. They first tried to clean the trim pieces but gave up within 10 minutes.

Do you use a car wash to clean the car ?
Have had similar problems with black trim, started with a rainbow like film similar to what a petrol stain does when wet, figured out its the chemicals used in the no touch car washes.

I just got the car. It’s a CPO. A guess is this car was never hand washed.

B4 you give up try WD40. Have used this successfully on anodized aluminum.

By any chance are you anywhere near the tri-state area? I have the same issue with my trim but my dealer refused to fix it under warranty and I’m trying to find another one that would.

did you try Rockville center? It’s where I got the car from and they agreed it was warranty work.

Not yet. I’ll reach out to them. Hopefully, they’re easier to work with. Rallye in Roslyn was the one that denied mine not sure why. Thanks!

That is awful. I can't believe they left it this way and let you take it home. Totally unacceptable.

I have these marks on my 2015 S500, I also have them on a Jaguar as well, funny that today I saw this Jaguar thread
https://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=122282
so I have bought a tub of the polish from Amazon that one of the guys recommended.
Mothers Mag & Aluminium Polish 5oz
It will be interesting to see if it helps on either or both cars.

S 550 AMG Sport Package
I had the same issue on a S550 that I purchased out of south Florida where it rains daily in the summer

Dealership in Atlanta was able to have their favorite detailer buff the water spots/oxidation out for $200

I coated with aluminum specific wax and have not had a issue since

Best,
MikeinATL

2020 S560 Sedan, 2019 SL450, 2019 E450 Luxury Trim Wagon, '24 BMW I7 on order...
We just picked up a 2019 E450 wagon and I knew that the bright work around the windows was “water spotted,” and planned on having the car detailed, as soon as I got the first service done, which was done yesterday. Anyway, based on this thread, I tried to polish these areas using a very mild polish with very light pressure and zero improvement. The areas are smooth to the touch and the car has been in Southern California since new. It would appear to me that the finish is defective and I will be visiting my dealer again next week to see what they say about it. I believe these bright, metal, window surrounds are polished and then clear coated, so I don’t see any sort of metal polish working on them.

I sent the photo to my SA. He said he has seen this before and that the MB stance is usually that it has “occurred due to an outside influence,” and not from a defective finish. Well, not every piece on my car is affected. Some still look perfect, so I’ve got their canned response beat. I’m taking the car in this week so the SM can look at it. I have no doubt that it will be replaced under warranty. Stay tuned!

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
I had the same thing on my 2018 E63 amg wagon when brand new on the passenger side rear window lower trim. They ordered a new piece and replaced it. It is under the clear coat so all the polishing in the world won't fix it. Defective.
