Interesting, I did not realize the gap was so big on model changes. Wonder what the 2018 facelift did to pre 2017 cars.

Yes. You read that right. The W221 is better built IMO. The W222 is aesthetically more graceful and the ride is smoother, but I just prefer the truly bank vault solid doors and German simplicity on the W221. Underneath the veneer of sleek technology driving aids and party trick LED ambient lights is car with cheap parts sourced from China. I love S-Classes and have owned four generations now, but the W222 will probably be the last I own. With trade in values high I got myself a certified GL450 SUV with enough cargo space for golf gear. I won’t miss the limited trunk space and the tinny sounding Burmeister 3D stereo. My W221 is still going strong at 240k miles and I hope to get it to over 300k miles before replacing it with a W221 S63, post headbolt issue engine of course. Good luck with whatever anyone decides. It’s your money. Either way a W221 or W222 are great cars in their own way. And not to go off on a tangent, but I was at the dealership and on the new W223 I really don’t like how the pop out door handles feel awkward and the seat switchgear are too firm to push. The interior even feels smaller than the W222. Mercedes seems to have blown it on the new S-Class.
