Engine differences between s63 and s550
Buddy is buying my S550 and has grand dreams of modifying it. I get his idea as my low mile s550 is 1/2 the cost of a s63 and there appears to be the same mods available.
What is the difference between a s63 engine and a s550? Is it the same engine just with stouter internals? bigger turbos? Who would think 500hp wouldn't be enough.
With prices plummeting I would guess more will get modified.

The 4.7 seems to be a very rugged motor and can handle a tune with 550HP no problem. To me with extra 3/4 liters displacement the motor is probably working less hard than a more boosted 4.0 liter. His idea is not a bad one, maybe even bigger turbos and more aggressive tune to bring it up to 600hp. Thats the most economical way to a really fast car. It's pretty darn fast stock as it is for a big car.

Another gimmick with S63 is they are hand built. Maybe that’s a biggie or not. They use better internals in valves and cranks, I have 5.5 l and I seen that boosting it above stock can damage it. Mine is OEM at 570 hp and 640 tq. , the S63 bodies and suspension are also aluminum, so lil lighter too.

I watch this guy in Dubai or some where in the Middle East. He takes them apart and shows yea what breaks. Says you really shouldn’t mod them. He looks legit , so this is where I get my source. I find the s63 has enough power so I lean with him. Watch him a little he does tons of M157 s
