Tires for 2014 550S

I am about due for replacement tires. There are Goodyear tires on now. Any suggestions for best overall replacement tire?

Many good options out there ... one way to approach it:
  1. Select the category on the Tire Rack website that best fits your needs (e.g. High-Performance All Season, etc)
  2. Look at the ratings within that category for the different qualities you value (dry traction, wet traction, treadwear, ride comfort, etc.)
  3. For an S-class consider whether you want runflats or not
  4. Consider prices, brand preferences, local availabilty, etc. to select a tire
I just got new tires for my wife's car ... chose Bridgestone Quiet Track and found Costco had $70 off with free installation

Hope that helps

First decision is runflats or not, plus you are limited with 20" wheels (I have 20" wheels as well). Several threads on here with distinct opinions. Principal issues are ride and no spare.
If you need all season tires, I could not find any all season runflats in the rear 20" tire size. Also, the Bridgestone QuietTrack tire mentioned above does not come in the 20" rear size.

Even though they only have 14k miles and plenty of tread, my tires were 6 yrs oId. I had decided on the non-runflat Continental DWS06 back in the spring, to be replaced about now, given I have summer tires. However, I have the tire/wheel replacement plan and had a front blowout in March so one tire was replaced and I bought one. I had planned on getting the Conti's in November and sell the front tires. However, two weeks ago I picked up a nail in a rear tire and it was replaced, and I bought one new one. So I guess I will just stick with the Goodyear runflats. Car does ride smoother after putting the two new tires on the rear. They are summer tires, but I have an AWD MDX for snow or very cold weather.

If you aren’t stuck on keeping the 20 inch wheels, this’ll probably a great time to switch to 19 inch wheels. Many more tire options at better prices, imo

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
I had put Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTZ tires on my 2017 that I just traded in last week. Great tires and inexpensive, I payed like $135.00 per tire and had driven them 12K miles and they were only about 1/3 worn. They are non run flats and they ride a lot better than run flats. I got a 2018 S560 to replace my trade in and it does have Continental SSR Runflats on it and they are much stiffer than the Uniroyals were and the car does not ride as good on the highway. Around town it rides better (at least at daytime) but only because it has the Magic body control option and the 2017 did not. I had 20's on my 2017. Think it was 275's on the back and 245's on the front and Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTZ's do make those sizes.

Michelin, Michelin and Michelin would be my top 3 choices.

I highly recommend Michelins from Tire Rack. Years ago, a Bridgestone tire on my Mercedes blew out on the highway after only 2 weeks of use, so I will never buy that brand again. Michelin normally has better ratings than the Continentals. I use run-flats, since it's too cumbersome to carry spares for 2 tire sizes. Yes, Michelins are more expensive, but we are driving $120,000 cars, after-all.
